This is a full Reading curriculum course taught by a certified teacher and Reading Specialist using the Science of Teaching Reading principles.  

This class is different from others because it follows a curriculum and is academically focused while being engaging and motivating for all learners.  The curriculum is cross-curricular so science and social studies topics be also be covered.

Small class sizes ensure that your child gets the one on one instruction your child needs, child will learn to read guaranteed!  Get your child ready for school!

This course will cover all 2nd Grade ELA state standards to meet homeschool requirements.  This class will teach CURSIVE HANDWRITING!

Second Grade State Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2 Reading Standards for Literature

KEY IDEAS AND DETAILS  
     Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how 
     Recount stories from diverse cultures to determine their central message
     Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.

CRAFT AND STRUCTURE  
     Describe the overall structure of a story
     Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters 

INTERGRATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND IDEAS  
     Use information from print or digital text to understand characters, setting, and plot.
     Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story 

KEY IDEA AND DETAILS  
     Identify the main topic within the text.
     Describe the connection between a series of historical events and scientific ideas

CRAFT AND STRUCTURE  
     Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text 
     Know and use various text features  
     Identify the main purpose of a text

INTERGRARION OF KNOWLEDGE AND IDEAS  
     Explain how specific images contribute to and clarify a text.
     Describe how reasons support specific points the author makes in a text.
     Compare and contrast two texts on the same topic

PHONICS AND WORD RECOGNITION  
     Word analysis skills in decoding words.
     Distinguish long and short vowels 
     Identify words with inconsistent but common spelling- sound correspondences.

FLUENCY  
     Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
     Read on-level text
     Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding

WRITING
     Write opinion pieces, informative/explanatory, and narratives 
     Focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.
     Produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
 
RESEARCH TO BUILD AND PRESENT KNOWLEDGE 
     Participate in shared research and writing projects 
     Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources

Important Notes for Class:
We will have one 2-3 minute brain break per class.
Some students might need small group/1:1 intervention to be successful in this course (Small group/1:1 tutoring will be offered on Fridays as needed)
