Who this course is for
Students above the age of 13 who can speak and write at an intermediate to advanced level and are preparing for the IELTS test. Younger students may consider alternative exam preparation courses.

Skills focus: Reading, Speaking & Writing, interpreting data, description trends, making comparisons, learning academic vocabulary, learning strategies for writing structured reports for different types of visual information in IELTS Academic Writing Task 1.

In these specialised lessons, you'll master the specific skills needed to excel on IELTS Academic Writing Task 1. Your tutor will help you analyse different types of visual information (charts, graphs, tables, maps, and process diagrams) and teach you effective strategies for describing key features clearly and accurately. 

You'll learn appropriate academic language for describing trends, making comparisons, and explaining processes, while developing a logical structure for your responses. With personalised feedback on your writing and targeted practice with authentic test materials, you'll develop the precise academic writing skills needed to achieve a high band score!

Learners will have an opportunity to practice each chart in balanced measure, covering 1-3 examples each chart type over the span of 12 weeks or at their own pace. For learners who are eager to master this skill area and wish to delve deeper, we offer hundreds of different exercises, each with suggested outline strategies and high scoring model answers.

Each tutoring session is planned so that the learner has an opportunity to discuss their interpretation of a chart and do in-class timed exercises, receiving positive feedback as well as correction and constructive criticism. Our custom developed course book contains tips and strategies for each chart type, guiding learners through the stage of the chart interpretation and writing planning process. 

As each chart type and topic area has its own structural requirements and language features, we aim to provide support in these areas as well. With each chapter in our course book, learners are quizzed to ensure effective retention and consolidation of the knowledge and skills they gain.

Overall, in this course, which is one component of our comprehensive IELTS preparation series, you'll develop a clear understanding of the Task 1 Academic Writing requirements, including how to quickly and confidently write effective chart and diagram overviews, backed up with supporting details, explanations and reasoning.

For learners who are new to this topic area, we have also designed supplementary self-paced learning course modules that focus on using the language of numbers, mathematics, and trends. Materials
Materials including readings and assignments are included in the course cost and are provided in chaptered  PDFs at the start of each unit or the end of a lesson, according to the course syllabus. Links to external recommended resources for independent study may also included. For best results learners can be expected to do one or two assignments per week or between lessons at minimum.

Feedback & evaluation
Learners receive one initial assessment, plus one detailed progress report at mid stage, plus one final report at conclusion of learner contract or course. For criteria fitting assignments, learners will also receive constructive feedback in the form of comments and personalised supplementary assignments.

Schedule
Flexible although it is recommended to commit to a time ranging between 12 - 24 hours over the course of 2-6 months.
