Students will:
 learn about an event that took place on the date of the class or a day that it commemorates and gain understanding about the event or idea;
be able to participate in a discussion about the event and how it can be used as an inspiration for writing;
be able to make a choice about creative or more factual writing and produce a piece that incorporates the 'on this day' topic. 

Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I've almost 20 years of experience in teaching English in primary schools (4-11-year-olds). Over those years I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills. I've also worked with students o historic events as well as studying in my own time and accessing the rich historical sites around me. I've also celebrated many an odd National Day with our youth groups and with my family and look forward to exploring more!

Various sources may be used for the different events, including websites such as nationalcalendar.com, photos that are copyright free, used with permission or are taken by myself, a variety of historical books that I have used in education over many years, etc.
I'm always happy to answer any specific questions.
