このクラスで学べること

In this interactive class, we will learn basic vocal techniques such as the difference between high and low notes, loud and soft (pianissimo through fortissimo), how fast or slow (tempo), basic rhythm patterns and basic note reading all while singing and dancing. Due to copyright laws all folk songs will be performed a capella (without instrumental accompaniment). Learners will also have the opportunity to research and learn about the culture of each area we study through folk dances, food, language, etc. We will learn songs in many different languages. I am so excited you have decided to take this journey with me! I can't wait to see you in our studio! This class is perfect for individual learners and multiple learners. Due to the nature of the times we are facing, I will allow multiple learners in the same family to enroll if they agree to be respectful and participate well in the classroom setting.
Travel and music have always been my two passions. After receiving my bachelor of music in 2000, I took a job sight unseen to Vancouver, British Columbia and experienced school life outside of my comfort zone in Texas and into a truly multicultural area of the world. Even when I returned, I continued to search for literature for my band groups that was full of rich folk music. When I stopped teaching to have a family and homeschool, I married a man from Hungary and became deeply interested in learning the culture of the Transylvanian region he was from. We took Hungarian dance classes and language classes. We also spent over 2.5 years traveling fulltime in our RV, seeing the the U.S. and Canada and meeting new people throughout North America. We traveled to Sydney, Australia and spent time at the Sydney Opera House and experienced an indigenous folk festival while there. I am always seeking understanding of people and culture as I experience life and I look forward to sharing and learning more as we work together in class.

Each week, students will gain access to a growing Google Slides presentation. This presentation will aggregate several examples of the music we discuss during class and offer opportunities for extension and practice. I will share links as we go in order to help them as they seek out more information about each folk song and dance related to the country studied that week. In the presentation, learners will have access to the lyrics to help as they learn. Learners will also receive a downloadable and printable Music Passport (optional) that can be used to record notes and memorable information and to keep as a souvenir of their trip around the world. Learners can find two equal size sticks around their home or purchase lummi sticks on Amazon if they choose; here is a link if you wish to use it https://amzn.to/3bddbGL. We will also be looking around the house for a way to make our own bamboo sticks for tinikling dancing when we travel to the Phillippines.

I have always been a teacher and explorer and received my bachelor's degree in music education in 2000. Teaching in the public school system as an accomplished band director for nearly a decade was rewarding; however, I wanted more for myself and...
