Welcome to the vibrant and engaging French language class designed for grades 1-3! Learn French by exploring essential topics that lay the foundation for effective communication and cultural understanding. We aim to cultivate a love for language learning while building confidence in using French in everyday contexts.

We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada.

Students in grades 1-3 will learn foundational French language skills across various essential topics. They will acquire vocabulary, basic grammar structures, and cultural knowledge that lay the groundwork for further language development. The topics covered include:

Greetings, Weather, Days of the Week, Simple Conversations:
Students will learn basic greetings (e.g., bonjour, bonsoir), expressions for different times of the day, and how to engage in simple conversations such as introducing themselves and asking basic questions. They will also learn vocabulary related to weather conditions (soleil, pluie), and days of the week (lundi, mardi).

Numbers 1-100:
Students will master counting from 1 to 100 in French, recognizing numbers and understanding their use in various contexts such as telling time, counting objects, and expressing quantities.

Family:
Students will learn vocabulary for family members (mama, papa, frère, sœur) and explore family relationships. They will describe their own families and learn about different family structures.

Feelings and Emotions:
Students will acquire vocabulary to express basic emotions (heureux, triste, en colère) and feelings in French. They will understand how emotions are expressed in different situations and learn to empathize with others.

Seasons:
Students will learn the names of the four seasons (printemps, été, automne, hiver) and associated weather patterns and activities. They will explore seasonal traditions and holidays in French-speaking regions.

Clothes:
Students will learn vocabulary related to clothing items (chemise, pantalon, chaussures) and materials (coton, laine). They will describe clothing preferences, learn about fashion trends, and discuss appropriate attire for different seasons.

House:
Students will acquire vocabulary for rooms in a house (chambre, cuisine, salle de bain) and common household items (lit, table, chaise). They will describe their living environments, daily routines, and household chores.

Hobbies:
Students will learn vocabulary for leisure activities (jouer, lire, dessiner), sports (football, natation), and artistic pursuits (danse, musique). They will discuss their favourite hobbies, interests, and the role of leisure time in their lives.

Class Structure:

The French class for grades 1-3 is structured to be interactive and engaging. Each lesson will typically begin with a brief review of previous learning objectives to reinforce retention.
Lessons on greeting, weather, days of the week, colours, shapes, and numbers will be reinforced regularly.New concepts and vocabulary will be introduced through visual aids, songs, games, and storytelling to cater to different learning styles. Activities will encourage active participation and provide ample opportunities for students to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French.

My teaching method blends direct instruction with hands-on learning experiences to make language learning enjoyable and meaningful for students. I will use a communicative approach, focusing on practical language use and real-life scenarios. Also, I will scaffold learning by providing clear instructions and modelling correct pronunciation and grammar structures.

My teaching style emphasizes a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with the French language. I will use positive reinforcement, encouragement, and praise to build students' confidence in their language abilities. I will also incorporate cultural elements to broaden students' understanding of French-speaking cultures around the world.

Students will have frequent opportunities to interact with me through group discussions, pair work, role-playing activities, and interactive games. I will encourage active participation by asking questions, eliciting responses, and providing constructive feedback.
