In this multi day class, the various parts functions and lifecycle of a plant will be explored through a variety of hands-on , student centered activities. Learners should have some basic pre-reading skills and beginning independent writing ability. 

Session 1, May 12- students will discover what a plant is and learn about the major types.  After  viewing an interactive slideshow, a follow up organizer worksheet will be used to reinforce the parts of a plant content. Upon seeing examples of student made plant crafts, learners will begin to create their own models. The class will be encouraged to plant their own seeds and take photos of their growth between classes, but this is optional. There will be a few minutes dedicated to the end of each class for any learner which would like to share their plant growth with the group.

Session 2, May 14- The life cycle  of a plant will be explored in this lesson. Students will watch a Canva  created slideshow and complete a follow up matching worksheet. Learners will be shown various models of life cycle crafts which they can create with household materials. 

Session 3, May 19- Instruction  about the plant life cycle will continue with a framed paragraph writing activity. Students will be given partial sentence prompts which they will complete with teacher guidance.  Prior to this writing exercise, students will observe a time lapse video of the plant and its life cycle. 

Session 4, May 21- This lesson will focus on the various functions of a plant. Learners will be exposed to the multiple jobs of roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. A matching  activity will serve as follow up.

Session 5, May 26- The various needs of plants will be highlighted in this lesson. Students will be able to distinguish plant  parts from plant needs through  photos and slides. A flipbook a plant needs (labeled and illustrated) will be made in class with guidance from the teacher. 

Session 6, June 2- Students  will write a plant needs framed paragraph after reviewing several sentence prompts. The group will have time to compare plant projects,  crafts and/or real plants that were grown during the course.

Parental guidance will be needed for use of scissors when making plant crafts or projects.

受講に必要なもの

Pencils, colored pencils/crayons/markers, scissors, Play-Doh, construction paper may be  needed for projects.
Although not required, students who have permission to grow a plant will need seeds, soil, a small container or cup, and access to water. 
Various teacher  made worksheets should be printed for learners to complete.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 25 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential.  For nine years I specialized  as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught  1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom.  I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar, reading comprehension and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons  for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space  together! 
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very  student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level. 
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga,   running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
