This is a math class designed to develop life skills in young learners through fun, interactive, visual, collaborative and engaging activities. They will learn how math is used in everyday life and how to solve basic word problems in math that relate to real-world situations using critical thinking and problem solving skills. The math word problems we will be solving are based on a theme learners will enjoy. It is full of interesting activities from start to finish. What will be covered in the lesson? - Fractions: Understanding fractions. - Division: Dividing numbers using short division and long division methods. - Multiplication: Multiplying whole numbers and fractions - Addition: Adding whole numbers and fractions. - Subtractions: Subtracting whole numbers. - Time conversion: Time-telling and how to convert time units. I am going to be delivering my lesson live using a combination of the following methodologies: - Direct Instruction - Problem-Solving Approach - Guided Discovery Approach - Discussion Method - Visual Approach We are going to start off with how learners can identify these skills. Then, I will show them how to develop the skills and use them to solve math problems based on real-world examples. I will also create interactive activities, engage in meaningful discussions with the students about their solutions to the math word problem, and provide them with digital worksheets to demonstrate their problem-solving abilities. Finally, they will be assessed on what they have learned during the lesson. As I am already planning a summer camp or math camp for learners this summer, this one-time class will be a great opportunity for them to experience my teaching style and class before then.

For this lesson, learners will not be required to use an account to access the approved third-party tools that I will be teaching with because I will be using Zoom screen share to teach the lesson and that includes sharing my Google slides, my Zoom whiteboard for collaborations, and my short videos/video clips made with Canva (created by me) to explain and demonstrate concepts used to solve the math word problems is uploaded to my slide. To clarify, I will not be using or presenting any lessons on Canva website. I created the short story videos myself to use while teaching in class and they have already been uploaded to my Google slides for the learners to watch during the lesson. They will be shared through my Zoom screen share.
The math quiz I created on Google form is set to not require an account, email address, or any personal information from the learners to access or submit. The results of their quiz or responses are automatically made available to them on the screen immediately they click submit. All responses to the quiz/activity on Google form are deleted after the class. I will provide links to download digital worksheets I created from my Google drive for learners to use during the math quiz and class activities to show their work. They get to present it on screen in class if they want, and also keep the digital copy of the worksheet for reference.

A pencil, a piece of paper and an eraser. During the lesson, we would have a "Show and Tell" about 2-dimensional shapes, so I'd encourage them to please bring one of each item they wish to share in class that is: Square-shaped e.g. a square board game they enjoy playing. Triangle-shaped Pentagon-shaped They don't have to bring all three shapes, just what they have is absolutely fine. It could even be an item with one of these shapes on it.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a management, finance and accounting background.
Over the years, I have worked with youths in a variety of capacities.
I have volunteered as a mentor providing virtual support to a few of the participants in a Project Management Program. It was my goal to assist them in improving their understanding of the course and help them succeed.
I also had the opportunity to volunteer at an elementary school multiple times. I am therefore experienced at engaging kids in activities and presenting complex information in a manner that makes it easy for them to understand.
When I managed a business, I taught trainees a mental math technique for counting out change based on the amount of money they received from their customers. I also taught them how to balance the cash register on their shifts. They worked hard to improve the skills I taught them and became phenomenal employees.
With my educational background, experience with youths of all ages, strong and effective communication skills, the ability to build trust, and the ability to teach topics I am enthusiastic about to students of various ages, I am confident I will have a positive impact on both the academic lives of the learners and Outschool as a whole.レビュー
