To think more closely about what a word means-how to pick a word apart to wisely "guess" its meaning.
To learn new, strong words.
To help students think more about the words they use in their writing.
To give students more tools to enhance their word knowledge.

I am currently a college instructor, and I teach developmental writing skills. I have a PhD in Language and Literacy (basically reading and writing), and I will have earned a graduate English certificate by December 2022. In addition, I have an Alternative Education certificate to help struggling learners. I have extensive (12 years) knowledge and experience of teaching writing skills. Furthermore, I am a learning strategies expert, so I know various strategies to learn in general and to improve/enhance vocabulary knowledge.

There will be a short practice "test" where students will use their new knowledge to determine a word's meaning.

Students will be provided with a handout to use and to write their responses. We may also use Google slides, depending on number of learners in the course section.
