The first goal of this course is to inspire and encourage young pianists eager to explore their own creativity. Through that end, students will gain a hands-on understanding of music theory as it applies to that day's class. A fun, encouraging performance environment will be cultivated in which everyone feels comfortable trying out their improvisations. Proper piano technique and position will encouraged as well, making this an excellent supplement to the student's other music lessons.
A piano or keyboard with at least 62 keys and polyphonic settings are necessary. The camera during class should show at least some of the keyboard as well as the learner, as best as able. The book we will use for some classes is called Discover Beginning Improvisation, by Nancy Faber. It is not required but students who want to go farther with improvisation should get it-$8.95 from SheetMusicPlus.com A free account on MuseScore, to notate and share your improvisation, if you'd like!
