Is your student reading at a 2nd grade level? This class is for them! 

In this class, students will develop their recognition of 2nd-grade phonics patterns like reading the long a sound as "ai" "ay" "a_e" or "a" like in the words "holiday, strayed, raining, radar," build skills for reading multi-syllable words like "reluctantly" and "hideous", develop automaticity with sight words, and develop fluency in reading. 

The class will follow the same structure each day to help students feel comfortable! The class will include:

Introductions
- Start with a get-to-know-you activity and review the rules of class. 

Review:
- Quickly review sounds and sight words for this reading level

Today's Spellings:
- Students learn and practice new phonics patterns 
- Students learn and practice new sight words

Reading:
- Students read the story 2-3x through popcorn reading
- The first read, students are focused on accuracy. If a mistake is made, the student is coached to correct it.
- The second and third reads, students work on fluency and rate.

After Reading:
- Students discuss comprehension questions, using inferences and critical thinking skills
