During this class, Miss Sue will read the story If You Take A Mouse To School by Laura Numeroff. My teaching style is rooted in a multisensory hands-on approach to learning. The more children are actively engaged in their learning process, the more learning connections and cognitive growth are developed. After the story we will discuss the story structure, review the events in the story, and sequence them in the correct order. After the story lesson, we will create our own yummy snack...
The students will learn how to correctly sequence the events in the story using memory, recall, and story structure.
Yummy Snack Recipe: 1. 1 slice of bread - sliced in half to form 2 triangles. The bread can be toasted, but it's not necessary. 2. 4 Ritz or any circular crackers. 3. Any spread for the bread - peanut butter, no nut butter, almond butter (easy to spread kind), or jelly/jam (your child's preference). 4. 4 raisins or chocolate chips. 5. 2 brown m&m's or 1 chocolate chip. *If your child has the book, he or she can bring it to the class. If your child doesn't have the book, then no worries because it's not a requirement. **These items are suggested and will make the lesson more interactive and interesting: 1. Lunchbox or Lunchbag 2. Notebook 3. Pencil 4. Backpack 5. Anything academic related- an abc book or numbers book, 1 magnetic alphabet letter or number or puzzle piece, or your child can prewrite a letter on a piece of paper to share along with the story. 5. Bottle of hand sanitizer 6. A toy block 7. Any story book - just one 8. A ball These resources are only suggested and will be used during the reading of the 2nd reading of the story. Your child will be prompted with words from the story and will hold up the correct object that matches the word. If your child doesn't have any of the items listed in 1-8, please let me know so I can send you clipart pictures to print out at home.
