Beginner レベル向け
This class is designed to cover everything the beginner player will need to successfully navigate a Dungeons & Dragons game, including basic rules, character creation, dice, story, and progress (level up, rewards, etc). It can seem overwhelming at first, but that's where I come in!

No previous experience is necessary (though of course teamwork and good communication skills are a great place to start). Dungeons & Dragons can be intimidating at first due to the sheer immensity of materials available, but I don't expect anyone to have all the books... or even ANY books! Everything you'll need to get started can be found online, for free. My style as a teacher (and as a Dungeon Master!) is very casual, flexible, and creative. The ultimate goal of this game is to have fun! I'm here to help everyone get ready to play some D&D. Questions and comments, as always, are very welcome!

Day One: Introduction to overall game concept. This will cover the basic mechanics of D&D as a game and what to expect when you start a campaign, including the "job" of DM and typical roles available (fighting, sneaking, magic, etc). We'll talk about the setting of the world and what is expected of the players from day one of a campaign. I'll also share (free!) online resources for all your D&D needs.

Day Two: Character creation. Using what we learned last time, we get more technical with how a character sheet works and what all those numbers actually mean. Also, dice! Math is a (small) part of D&D, but don't worry! It's just adding and subtracting. The real fun begins when you start to see your character affect the story and interact with other characters. Not all progress is reflected in numbers... sometimes having a really cool story to tell is just as rewarding as a sack of gold or a level up!

Day Three: Conflict. It's as unavoidable in D&D as it is in real life. Whether you're fighting monsters or arguing with other players around the table, let's take a look at how to resolve these issues, both in-game and out. We'll go over the basics of battle, weapons, initiative, and special circumstances. Also, we'll talk about navigating the social aspects of D&D, as well as best practices for players that will help everyone get along and have a good time.

Day Four: Last call for questions! We'll go over what we've learned, fill in any blanks, and run through a couple practice scenarios so that students can try their hand at a real game experience. Hope to see you there! ^_^b

On a serious note, my philosophy of teaching is based on the personal belief that any subject can be exciting, given a good teacher. I strive to encourage curiousity and love of learning in all my students, and I hope that by guiding young minds to achieve greatness, the next generation will be kinder, wiser, and happier.

Also, I am an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and a member of the aforementioned community, so if that bothers you, I would respectfully suggest choosing a different teacher. ^_^b

I have twelve years of ESL tutoring experience (adults and children), as well as one-on-one tutoring with young people and kids with special needs (core curriculum). I have a B.A. in English and many years as an editor for university-level publications.

I'm an educator by nature, and my main goal is to make learning fun (while making sure the facts are accurately presented). My main resource is flexibility; everyone learns differently, and sometimes all it takes is a little extra time and effort for things to click. One-on-one tutoring is my favourite form of teaching, so please let me know if there's anything I can do for you!

P.S. Although I currently have turned off auto-scheduling, if you have any requests for a class, please don't hesitate to reach out! I will try to accommodate every request. Thanks! :)
