In this 8 lesson course we will learn about the Principles of Art! I will be demonstrating the projects and techniques in a series of step-by-step videos & slideshows. Students will explore a variety of media. Lesson 1: Balance- In this assignment students will look at radial balance! Students will create a design that showcases their knowledge of radial shapes. Lesson 2: Unity- Students will create unity in their work by examining an object in contour line. Lesson 3: Variety- Students will create a landscape drawing filled with a variety of designs using line, color & shape. Lesson 4: Proportion- Students will work on observational drawing. In this artwork students will focus on achieving correct proportions. Lesson 5: Emphasis- Students will create a nature inspired drawing with color emphasis on a chosen area! Lesson 6: Pattern- Students will create a clay Alebrije inspired animal and finish painting in brightly colored patterns! Lesson 7: Movement: Students will look at the artwork "I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold" by Charles Demuth as inspiration for the rhythm/movement artwork! Lesson 8: Principles of Art Challenge! Create a piece of art work demonstrating at least 3 of the 7 Principles of Art we learned about in class!

1. Drawing paper 2. Water color or heavy paper 2. Ruler 3. Pencil 4. Black permanent marker 5. Colored Pencils or marker set 6. Watercolors 7. Model Magic Clay- a 4 oz bag will make two pinch pots. You can find on amazon, Walmart, Target and craft stores. I purchased a 4oz bag at Target for $3.49 8. I have taught high school art for 18 years! Last year I had the opportunity to teach middle school students remotely and loved it! I have taught a variety of courses over my career such as: Fine Arts 1 & 2, Introduction to Photography, Pottery 1 & 2, Introduction to Jewelry, Introduction to Crafts, Introduction to Sculpture, Design 1 & 2.
I believe creating art is a process. It takes making a mess, mistakes and trying again! Creating art is a method of communication with the world!
