The Foundation in Sounds program improves auditory discrimination, auditory memory size, and auditory sequencing so that students would have the necessary skills to move into the Barton Reading & Spelling System. During each week, the students will learn two sounds. Sessions are short to help with attention span. The lessons are also multisensory to improve mastery of the sounds. The sounds include the following:
Lesson 1: /m/ and /n/
Lesson 2: /f/ and /v/
Lesson 3: /th/
Lesson 4: /k/ and /g/
Lesson 5: /s/ and /sh/
Lesson 6: /i/ and /e/
Lesson 7: /u/
Lesson 8: /a/ and /o/
Lesson 9: /l/ and /r/
Lesson 10: /d/ and /t/
Lesson 11: /ch/ and /j/
Lesson 12: /b/ and /p/
*Please note that a student will move through the curriculum at their own pace. Most students take several monthly sessions to complete all 12 of the Foundation in Sounds lessons. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading/Language Arts. Two of my 5 children are Dyslexic and I have worked with many Dyslexic and struggling readers over the years.
