このクラスで学べること

1. Students will learn and perform the comparatives fast and slow, soft and loud, and high and low. 

2. Students will work on becoming tuneful. They will use their singing voices.

3. Students will learn and perform steady beat. They will move to the beat, point to a visual representation of beat, and aurally identify the beat in music.

4. Students will learn and perform basic rhythms (quarter notes and eighth notes). They will move their bodies to the rhythm, point to iconic representation and standard notation of rhythm, and aurally identify rhythm patterns in music.

5. Students will distinguish the difference between beat and rhythm. 

6. Students will learn and perform basic melody in music. They will identify high and low sounds and learn how musicians can label these sounds with the solfege so and mi. They will move their bodies to the melody, point to iconic representation and standard notation of melody, and aurally identify melodic patterns in music. They will identify the lines and spaces of the music staff.

7. Students will learn how to express themselves through music. While listening to beautiful classical and folk music, students will move their bodies expressively. Students will connect and respond to music.
I have been teaching music to children since 2008. I have my Master of Music in Music Education from Capital University with a Kodály Emphasis. I also have an early childhood First Steps in Music certificate from the University of Hartford. I have taught many workshops on how to teach music to children, and I teach teacher's in the graduate programs at DePaul University and James Madison University.

Students will also be given two age-appropriate short assignments each week. One of the assignments will be sent to the teacher (Examples: worksheet, video of performance, interactive Google Slides game). I will monitor these assignments and give feedback. Students can also interact with each other about their performances. The other assignment will be an optional at-home assignment. It will be given as an "Ask Me" sheet. Parents and families will be encouraged to ask their children directed questions about topics discussed. Homework assignments will take about 10 minutes a week.

Throughout the course, students may need:
-Rhythm Sticks: These can be dowel rods or even wooden spoons to tap together
-Movement Scarf: This could be a dishrag or small blanket
-Shaker: This could be a container filled with rice
-Stuffed Animal/Toy
-Ball that bounces

Additional handouts will be provided throughout the course. Students may need to print a few worksheets throughout the course.
