Part 1 of 5

This advanced course will cover the Middle and High School NGSS Earth Science Standards in a hands-on and engaging way! Seed and Stem Learning Center believes that students learn science best through exploration, group work, and hands-on activities. Real-world problems, situations, and problem-based learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact with other students and their instructor throughout this course in order to get the most out of their online experience. 

Students will meet for a live meeting twice a week for instruction, demonstrations, group work, and experiments. The rest of the week will provide students the opportunity to complete projects, labs, research reports, homework assignments. 

Students will have multiple performance assessments throughout the course in order to assess their understanding in addition to problem-based learning projects and experiments. 

This course is taught by a certified Secondary Science teacher.

Unit 1: Introduction to Environmental Challenges
Week 1: Introduction to Environmental Science
Week 2: Human Impact 

Unit 2: Values and Sustainability
Week 3: Human Values and Environmental Justice
Week 4: Sustainable Plans 

Unit 3: The History, Politics, and Economics of Environmental Problems
Week 5: Environmental History
Week 6: Environmental Politics and Economics

Unit 4: Environmental Health Hazards
Week 7: Risks and Health Hazards
Week 8: Toxins and Pollutants

After each lesson, students will receive a homework assignment. This may include a research report, lab, experiment, reading, or project.
Students should be knowledgeable on basic Earth Science concepts and be prepared to do readings and homework assignments weekly.
