In this class, students will learn the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. They will learn how to draw the 3D shapes: cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cylinder, pyramid, and sphere. They will learn the different parts of 3D shapes: the vertex, face, and edge. Students will also be able to identify the parts on each of the individual shapes. The time of our class will be structured with introduction, teacher instruction, guided practice, group practice, individual practice, and conclusion. During the introduction, the teacher will get to know each student as well as gage any prior knowledge students may have about the topic. To instruct the students, the teacher will explain the difference between 2D and 3D shapes while showing examples of 3D shapes the students may see in their everyday life. During guided practice, students will follow the teacher's directions step by step to draw each 3D shape. They will also learn the parts of a 3D shape and label each shape correctly. The students will show their drawings to the teacher after each shape to allow the teacher to assess if students are understanding how to draw each shape correctly. For group practice, students will play the game "Draw That Shape", where students will draw the shape that is called out by the teacher as fast as they can. First person to correctly draw the 3D shape will earn a point. Student with the most points will win the game! Students will then be asked to draw their favorite 3D shape and label each part of the shape. To conclude the class, students will share which shape is their favorite to draw and why. I taught sixth grade math for four years. I am passionate about helping students learn new math skills while making it fun and engaging. As a teacher, I make sure to create standard-based lessons that help students to learn the curriculum while making it fun to learn!
学習到達目標
CCS Math Content.7.GA 2- "Draw (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology) geometric shapes with given conditions."
その他の情報
受講に必要なもの
Students need to have something to draw with or something to draw on. They can use a pen and paper or they can use a whiteboard and marker. If using a whiteboard and marker, students may want a notebook to draw the shapes as well, so they can go back to look at and practice them later.

教師の専門知識と資格
Hello! My name is Olivia Schuster and I am so excited to get to teach you! I taught at a private school for five years: one year in second grade and four years in sixth grade. While teaching sixth grade, I helped pilot and implement a new Common Core curriculum, as well as introduce, teach, and lead the Science Fair for the entire sixth grade. I also created science labs and math activities to help enhance curriculum and meet the standards. I also taught English to Chinese student online for a little over a year, so I am very familiar with teaching students through an video chat format.
Due to a recent move, I am now a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful daughters, age 3 and age 1. Instead of being just a stay-at-home mom, I like to call myself a stay-at-home teacher. I love teaching and am excited to teach students (other than my own kids) again!
My desire as a teacher is to create a learning environment where students can learn through their own discovery. Through engaging and creative standard based lesson plans I want to instill in my students a passion for learning. My expertise and experience enables me to reach each student at their own level and promote the idea of being a life-long learner while having fun. I am excited to meet you and to teach you very soon!
