週1時間. Each lesson centers around a main idea. These big ideas connect through out the sections of the course. The goal is to reinforce these ideas and show how they are tied to the big picture. These lessons are tied to state and national standards.テスト
There will be four components that the final grade will be based on. - Did they attend every class? - Did they complete the reading comprehension question and turn them in on time? Did they try? - Did they participate in the group discussion over zoom. - The last component will be over their presentation of their cell model. The physical model can be as simple as painted dry pasta, barbie dolls and Legos in a shoe box, but with a good explanation. The grade is determined by the presentation, including all the cell parts, there function and what they do for the whole cell. It is NOT about their arts and crafts skills. A rubric (grading table) will be presented. I will write a report to the parent for how the student did in each of the four categories. I believe this will be a strong indication of future success in school.評価

This is an introductory course for foundations in cellular biology and part of a series. While you do not need to take the series from me you will need an idea of the material in these other classes. It is just harder to just slide into it half way through. A lot of people might think you just jump to a higher classes it will be easier. When the classes get harder the previous learning is a necessary step to later learning. Vocabulary, background, and previous steps are necessary. - The first class is Biology and all about several scientific processes like diffusion, active transport, then the class moves on to cells and cellular organelles. - The second class is Genetics I, we will be going over cell growth, cell cycle, cancer, basic meiosis, standard mendelliam genetic, crosses, and punnett squares. - The third class is Genetics II, we will be going over cellular protein manufacturing, transcription, translation, genetic change, and when heredity follows different rules. All previous learning will come quickly as its meant to be a review and act as a spring board to new topics and new learning. The ideal student will be going into high school or excited about science topics. Almost each session will have a reading, and some questions after the reading that is to be done BEFORE class. These question are a pre assessment and they are just asking clarification questions like does the student understand what they were reading? On our class day I will high light some important points in the reading. The general structure is this... - Session One: Three Types of Foods, what a cell needs and how it can grow and development - Session Two: Cellular Energy - Sunlight to glucose to cellular fuel (ATP n ADP). - Session Three: Water and Diffusion - this is about the processes of moving stuff moves in and out of the cell. it sounds easy enough but these are important concepts. - Session Four: Plasma Membrane - more than just the cells screen door. The plasma membrane is the gate keeper controlling diffusion. - Session Five: Organelles, Prokaryotic and Eukaryotes (oh my) - Session Six: Project Examples and Cell Model description, its just getting ready for our presentation. - Session Seven: Cell Model Student Presentations - Session Eight: Specialized organelles found in different cell types leading to cell specialties. After this the student should have a grasp of these concepts. The over all goal is to explain how diet, and nutrition effects the cells and the whole body. We will also touch on the concept of cancer, new born cellular specialization. It greatest benefit will be more science literacy, critical thinking skills and a better understanding of science and scientific thinking.
学習到達目標
Session One Learning Goals: You are what you eat, how it is your fuel and what your body does with it.
Session Two Learning Goals: Where does ATP come from, where does it go, why we need it.
Session Three Learning Goals: Fluid movement of material in and out of the cell
Session Four Learning Goals: Why does semi-permeable membrane mean and why it is important.
Session Five Learning Goals: What is an organelles, what does it do, and where you find them.
Session Six Learning Goals: Did the student learn what they needed to learn?
Session Seven Learning Goals: Can the student take theoretical knowledge and turn it into a 3D model and explain it.
Session Eight Learning Goals: the student will show the class there cell model, present the parts, and describe what they do for the whole cell.

The content is appropriate for a standard high school biological class. This content is age appropriate and focused specifically on learning biological concepts and cells. This is material you will need for a standardized test or success in a biology class.
WARNING: I understand there may be a huge difference between the accepted academic answer, society answers and religious answers. Everyone is welcome to their beliefs I am teaching academic biology. We will not be debating any facts the student knows or believes.
- From an academic historical point of view Christopher Columbus in 1792 discovered America. For this to be true you have to ignore all the people living here at the time. You must ignore all older human settlements and archaeological evidence that contradicts it.
- From an academic science point of view there are only two sexes. For this to be true you have to ignore all the changes in society, anyone who identifies differently and all the exceptions, differences and peoples opinion.
- From an academic geologic point of view the earth formed 4.5 bya (billion years ago). The universe is 13.7 byo (billion years old), life first life appeared here on earth 3.8 bya. This statement is not true for a LOT of people due to a variety of reasons, but we will take it as fact for this class.
- Most believe that humans are alone in the universe and that man is the most intelligent being in existence. This is a fun question and the biggest exception is the “Fermi Paradox”. This is beyond the scope of the class but please look it up for some fun science reading.

使用する教材
I will be using material from 4 sources; content I created like the reading questions, chapters from a published biology text to read, videos that go with the text, pulled from the internet, or videos that were student created with teacher approved content.
Please request the first reading assignment to me sure of the content and reading level.

I love Biology and learning about the body and genetics. I have taught in private and public schools from the 5th grade to high school. I have taught introductory (100 level) classes at the college level on the topics of biology and microbiology.
I also taught swimming and archery at a summer camp but these skills will not be taught in this class.
