In this ongoing course, students will meet twice a week for 45 minutes to review 5th grade math skills. All lessons will be based on the Common Core 5th grade math standards.

This class is designed to serve as a homeschool aid, remote learning supplement, or review for students. It aims to reinforce and enhance the following mathematical skills:

-Operations with whole numbers, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
-Understanding and applying fractions and decimals.
-Exploring and solving problems involving measurement and data.
-Developing proficiency in geometry concepts.
-Introducing and practicing algebraic thinking.

By focusing on these key areas, students will build a strong foundation in 5th grade math and feel more confident as they progress in their mathematical journey.

August 17th and 18th:  classify quadrilaterals
August 24th and 25th: NO CLASS
August 31st and September 1st: long division (dividing by 1-digit)
September 7th and 8th: long division (dividing by 2-digits)
September 14th and 15th: NO CLASS
September 21st and 22nd: long division (interpreting remainders in word problems)
September 28th and 29th: NO CLASS
October 5th and 6th: NO CLASS
October 12th and 13th:  multiplying fractions and dividing fractions 
October 19th and 20th: multiplying and dividing mixed numbers
October 26th and 27th: mode, mean, medium, and range
November 2nd and 3rd: place value (standard, word, and expanded form to the millions place) and rounding
November 9th and 10th: perimeter and area 
November 16th and 17th: area continued and volume
November 23rd and 24th:  adding fractions and adding mixed numbers 
November 30th and December 1st: NO CLASS
December 7th and 8th: subtracting fractions and subtracting mixed numbers
December 14th and 15th: elapsed time
December 21st and 22nd: measuring angles
December 28th and 29th: multi-digit multiplication
January 4th and 5th: long division 
January 11th and 12th: long division word problems (interpreting remainders)
January 18th and 19th: NO CLASS
January 25th and 26th: decimal place value (comparing decimals, ordering decimals, and placing decimals on a number line)
February 1st and 2nd: adding and subtracting decimals
February 8th and 9th: multiplying decimals
February 15th and 16th: dividing decimals
February 22nd and 23rd: understanding and evaluating powers of ten 
 
During each class, students will actively participate in interactive lessons. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers as well as work independently to solve problems using the strategies taught in the lesson.

To reinforce their learning, students will also have optional homework assignments. Completing these assignments will provide them with additional practice and help solidify their understanding of the concepts covered.

By incorporating both collaborative and independent work, along with optional homework, students will have a well-rounded learning experience that promotes active engagement and skill development.

Recommended For:
This course is recommended for advanced 4th grade students preparing for 5th grade, current 5th grade students reviewing grade level math content or 6th grade students who need a refresher of 5th grade math content.
