NOTE: on my class page you will find science sections for grades 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5-6. Ask about sibling discounts! Each week in this class we will cover grade 4 social studies standards. I will be updating the content in the coming month. I use songs, books, video clips and hands-on activities to create an interactive learning environment to help students stay engaged. The concepts under social studies can be harder concepts for learners to grasp - it’s not as cut and dry as a science topic. Due to this, there will be a lot of hands-on learning. Students will begin to understand the world they live in and discuss what their roles and responsibilities are. GRADES 4 STANDARDS TO BE COVERED: US HISTORY+: Native Peoples of the USA Regions Overview -- Mapping Out Tribes / Nations Age of Exploration — European Nations Began Exploring the World — 3 G’s (Gold, God, Glory) Jamestown Colonial America - 13 Colonies & Their Regions / Economics -- England, French, Spain Fighting for Land in North America -- Affects on Native Americans American Revolution - Causes and Major Events / Battles / People New Nation - United States of America (See GOV) GOVERNMENT: What Does Freedom Mean? Ask about sibling discounts! I am a dedicated, fun and full-time Outschool teacher and am licensed in the United States. I have worked in different capacities with children and families for more than 20 years. I am especially passionate about early intervention: academic, social-emotional and learning disabilities. I also love to challenge accelerated students so they do not become bored with learning. Earning a master’s degree in art therapy in 2005, I began my career with children as an art therapist working in residential facilities. My specialty was treating children (ages 5 to 17) who had experienced trauma. Moving to Utah in 2009, I became part of a school teaching children with high functioning autism and pursued a teaching license in special education. I spent eight years teaching first grade prior to assuming the role of K-6 Academic Achievement Specialist. I combined the skills and modalities I acquired first in art therapy and then developed further in teaching. I am Orton-Gillingham certified to help struggling readers succeed. My preference is to use hands-on and “active” experiences to help children meet their individual, social and academic needs. I grew up in the South Pacific on an island called Kwajalein which gave me my love of traveling and experiencing different cultures. My dog, Chiara, was rescued from a small village in Italy when she was a pup. She even has an Italian Passport! I’m excited to be apart of the Outschool family!
