週1時間. Each week, students will receive an assignment to continue learning outside of class. Assignments are typically inquiry-based or project-based learning where students can dive deeper into the topic through research, critical thinking, creativity, or interaction within their own community. While homework assignments are not required, they are highly recommended to get the most out of lessons and meet our learning goals. Homework is due one week after it is assigned. Mrs. A will respond to homework by posting comments within a week of the assignment due date.
評価
Mrs. A will give feedback on each assignment submission by responding to students within a week or 2 of the due date.

Dive into the past, engage with the present, explore the world, and grow together in Third & Fourth Grade Social Studies with Mrs. A!

In this vibrant Social Studies class, led by a passionate and experienced teacher with a Master’s degree in Teaching, learning is an adventure! We meet once a week for fun, interactive lessons filled with activities and exploration. This year, we’ll cover everything from ancient cultures to current events, geography to civics, cultures, and economics—all aligned with the United States National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) standards and our own creative twist!

Some favorite activities this year include decoding hieroglyphic messages from ancient Egypt; working in breakout rooms to draft bills and simulate congressional meetings to make a bill into a law; tracking the journey of a t-shirt through the global supply chain of today; mapping a trip with friends across America using knowledge of coordinates and landforms; and stepping into the shoes of Sacagawea as she heroically guides in the Westward Expansion!

Mrs. A has a unique way of teaching that engages learners and brings important concepts and stories to life! Students have fun as they learn and connect with others to make it meaningful, engaging, and memorable.

Here’s what each class will look like:

🍎Welcome & Community Time: We start with a warm greeting and time to connect.

🍎Exploratory Questions: We’ll spark discussions and ignite prior knowledge.

🍎Key Lesson: This is where we dive into our theme, exploring topics like history, geography, civics, and economics.

🍎Engaging Activities: From games and stories to discussions and projects, we’ll make learning fun and interactive.

🍎Recap & Homework: We’ll review what we’ve learned and set optional homework to continue the exploration.

🍎Goodbye & Lesson Recap: We’ll wrap up and post a recap of the lesson and homework in our online classroom.

Our classes are all about discussion and critical thinking, guided by questions and teaching slides. We’ll use read-alouds, games, and group projects to make every lesson engaging. Whether you’re the type who loves to share or prefers to observe quietly, there’s a place for you here. Mrs. A ensures everyone has a chance to participate in a way that’s comfortable for them.

Each month, we’ll dive into a core theme, exploring it in-depth each week. You’ll have the chance to take on “action items” outside of class to keep the learning going! Homework is optional but highly encouraged to further your understanding and achieve learning goals and the NCSS standards.

While discussions about culture and history can pose the possibility of discussions on discrimination and racism, you can be assured that your instructor is prepared and experienced in discussing these topics. While racism is real and present, it is also a true part of our world's history. It will be discussed in a way that reflects the realities of our world's history and the need for kindness and acceptance of people of all backgrounds. Any expression of direct discrimination or unkindness inside the classroom will be addressed and followed up after class. Students may be removed or addressed formally through Outschool Safety & Support.
