This nontraditional, hands-on and discovery based course is perfect for a home-school curriculum or to use as a review.

Students will explore number relationships by doing hands-on activities, looking for patterns, and solving complex problems.

There are three primary goals of this course:
1. Students to develop flexible math thinking (the ability to see relationships and use those relationships to solve problems in a variety of ways)
2. Students to gain confidence in their problem-solving abilities
3. Students to gain not just school knowledge but real-life critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Due to the nature of this course, it is important for students to come to class with their cameras on and be ready for discussion.

Each class will follow the following format: Warm Up Activity that works on developing mental math skills, and number flexibility, a hands on activity or a complex problem for students to work through together, a summation of the key idea for the day, and an exit question (they will submit their answer privately in the chat)
I will use this exit question as an informal assessment of your learner’s progress.

I keep detailed notes of each learner's progress for their time in my classes. A transcript will be sent with personalized information at the end of the semester.

Please note: There will be an optional follow-up activity at the end of each week for you to use as homework. If students submit to me privately, I provide feedback.

The course will follow the following schedule:

I am a non traditional teacher, no lectures here!
Instead my classes focus on being:
*Student Centered- they lead the pace
*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think

I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.

I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.

I check my email frequently and am happy to answer specific questions regarding specific classes. Please don't hesitate to reach out!

In my down time, I love hanging with my husband, and two girls. We love to read books, play games and do math together (of course:)
