If students have a study guide, a project rubric, etc. they need to adhere to or focus on for their essay or writing, that would be very helpful to bring to class and to share with me prior to the start of class (Please see parent notes).
*Due to possible external resources used for review (approved by Outschool), this course is only available to students aged 13+

Although the primary focus of this class is NOT directly teaching History content, while reviewing and practicing Social Studies skills, trivia questions, primary source excerpts, and images students may be exposed to Historical references that may include but are not limited to: death, violence, racism, enslavement, war, genocide, disease, sexism, etc. All topics will be addressed and incorporated in an age-appropriate way but may be sensitive topics for some learners.

Because instruction is designed around your learner's needs, parents are expected to be responsive in communicating prior to the start of class so I can adequately prepare. Ideally, to provide your learner the best, most personalized experience, I need to know what your learner needs help with at least 24 hours prior to the start of their first class date, and if your child needs any particular accommodations that you feel would help them. Please expect a message upon enrollment.

If students have a study guide, a project rubric, etc. they need to adhere to or focus on for their essay or writing, that would be very helpful to bring to class and to share with me prior to the start of class.
If no particular books, notes, rubrics or study-guides are offered by students, then below is a list of (non-exhaustive) resources that may be used to support your learner and support their content background or practice questions:

*Trivia/Questions & Skills will be based on Common Core Standards + Individual State standards+ the National Council for the Social Studies Standards that students are typically expected to master at the secondary level. Some practice questions that may be used as inspiration for practice test questions for review may come from release test questions from various states that are free and available to the public. Social Studies workbooks such as America's Story: Book One to 1865 by Vivian Bernstein and Passwords Social Studies Vocabulary: United States History Beginnings to 1877 by Curriculum Associates.

Content support notes & resources to be provided to students as a scaffolding tool will also come from Common Core Standards +State Standards as well as inclusive History Books such as:
*THE AMERICAN YAWP
A Massively Collaborative Open U.S. History Textbook: https://www.americanyawp.com/

Excerpts from Primary Sources/Primary Source readers (for trivia questions where we touch on primary source analysis skills practice):
*For the Record Vol. 1: A Documentary History of America by David E. Shi & Holly A. Mayer
*Call to Freedom (Reading & Activities): Beginnings to 1877 by Holt, Rineheart & Winston
*National Archives, or other websites that give access to primary sources

-If any additional resources are added, they will be updated in this description for parents to view.
