In this 5-week course, students will develop and strengthen their beginner informative writing skills. This is a great course for 1st and 2nd grade students to start off the school year, as well as Kindergartners who need more of a challenge. We will write facts about different topics each class. Some prompts will be in a how-to or step by step format. Other prompts will be stating facts. We will learn and talk about nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs to help write our informative pieces! Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! My name is Sarah Born. I have been teaching live, online classes to children, ages 3 to 16, for over two and a half years. I love the connections made between students and teachers that would otherwise be impossible without the technological advancement of education. I primarily teach elementary aged children in all subject areas with a focus on ELA. As a former litigation attorney, I have a love for writing and, yes, even grammar.
I started my undergraduate education as an early childhood education minor but switched my major to history halfway through my junior year. I went on to attend law school at Syracuse University College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2008. I was an employment law litigation attorney until deciding to stay home with my young children in 2015. When they both reached elementary school age, I started subbing at their school. Since October 2017 I have been teaching online to allow myself the freedom to be available for my children, including volunteering as the Vice President of the PTA.
Online teaching requires a certain level of energy, especially when teaching less than exciting topics like grammar! I keep my classroom upbeat and interactive to maintain not only student engagement but to facilitate learning and retention. We have fun in my online classroom! There is nothing better than a child who is excited for class and ready to learn.
I live in North Carolina with my husband, son and daughter, along with a small zoo of pets. We have 2 standard poodles, a cat, a leopard gecko and 2 poison dart frogs! My family moved to North Carolina 2 years ago from Rochester, New York. Although I have taken a break from professional photography, capturing babies, children and families is one of my favorite ways to spend free time!
