Experiencia de clase

In this class we will learn the structures of the human brain that are responsible for controlling our five senses. Students will be introduced to scientific terms with an explanation of their meaning. We will learn about a different sense each week, and will do activities or play games to help connect to the class content.

Week 1 Introduction: Learn about the brain parts needed for our five senses. We will learn by placing our hands on our head over the parts of the brain as we act out each sense.
Week 2 Sight: See how optical illusions can trick your brain, and explore how your brain processes images. We will look at some optical illusions and discuss how our brain processes sight.
Week 3 Sound: Listen to different sounds and explore the system in your ear and brain that allow you to hear. We will play a game to identify different sounds we hear.
Week 4 Touch: Learn how our brain understands touch. Explore different household objects to see how they feel, and envision how the signal is sent to the brain.
Week 5 Smell: Learn how the human sense of smell compares to other animals. Explore and compare scents found around your home.
Week 6 Taste: Bring some different flavored snacks to class, and learn how our taste buds allow us to explore different flavors. The last 10 minutes of class will be spent with a little goodbye party to celebrate the end of our class.

When I took my first psychology course in University I was hooked on the topic! I couldn't believe it had taken me so long to learn about my brain! The program I was in would not allow for a minor, but that did not stop me from taking every psychology course I could fit in my schedule. The more I studied psychology the stronger the feeling grew that it was a topic that should be learned early in life.
