Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Preschool - Kindergarten
Nivel Beginner
Preschool through early elementary school aged children will learn the uppercase English alphabet letters one at a time using the "see it, say it, trace it, write it" method.

After a quick introduction and checking with each student to ensure they have the required printed worksheet and something to write with, we will watch a sing along video to see and say the alphabet in uppercase letters. We will then remind students that "uppercase" and "capital" letters mean the same thing, as both terms may be mentioned during the class. We will then watch another short video and move our bodies to the Alpha Groove song. Be sure that there is enough room around your child so they can move their bodies without bumping into something near them.

Students will start the lesson by seeing the uppercase letter of the week to study letter recognition. The letter will be presented in different font styles to show the children examples of how a single letter can look slightly different in written form. After that, the class will practice phonics by saying the letter name and the sound it makes. We will learn several words that begin with the letter we are studying. Words presented at this time will include pictures of age appropriate objects young children may be familiar with. On weeks where we learn vowels (A, E, I, O, U), students will see and say words that start with the long and short vowel sounds.

Next, the class will study letter formation by learning the line motion of the uppercase letter. A verbal pathway prompt will be given for each letter, so that the children can easily learn in a correct order how to form the letter. We will trace the letter in the air using our fingers. A third short video will be played to help demonstrate the line formation of tracing each letter, as well as reviewing letter recognition and phonics.

Near the end of the class, we will use our required printed worksheet to practice all that we learned from the "see it, say it, trace it, write it" method. Each worksheet will include a large image of the letter, numbered lines to show the student how to trace the letter, several dotted letters for the child to trace over, and room on the page for practicing writing the letter on their own. Images of objects that start with the letter are printed on the worksheet to allow the student to say the word and practice their phonics skills. Children will enjoy coloring the pictures on their own either during the class or at the end of class. If your child doesn't finish the worksheet during class time, that's ok! Children can complete the worksheet with or without assistance outside of class time.

Finally, we will see and say the alphabet together once again at the end of class. Repetition is key to learning the alphabet, so I hope your child can join me each week as we learn the uppercase letters of the English alphabet together!

Upon enrollment of the first student, classes will begin with letter A, followed by B the next week, and C the week after that, and so on!
Metas de aprendizaje
Young Learners will practice letter recognition and beginning letter sounds. They will learn about the weekly theme and be exposed to new ideas and vocabulary related to the world around them. They will develop social skills such as asking questions, sharing ideas with a group, following directions, communicating, problem solving. They will engage in age-appropriate, interactive, playful learning through creative projects, rhymes and songs, games and dramatic movement exercises, as well as counting, pattern recognition, color matching, read-alouds, and other hands-on activities.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
Shiny Happy Kids is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, affirming space for all kinds of learners. Growing up as ND and gifted kids, our ND teachers understand the need for classrooms where everyone gets to shine!
Orientación para padres
Since this class is for the youngest learners, please remain with your child for the duration of class (adults must stay to the side and not seen during the Zoom meeting). We will be coloring, gluing, using scissors, and/or using sculpting materials during class. Your child will appreciate your attention and help with these supplies.
Lista de útiles escolares
Paper and pencil, construction paper, colored pencils/markers/crayons, building supplies ie LEGO or DUPLO bricks or similar bricks, small manipulatives (anything that can be used to make letters--contact teacher for ideas), building blocks, sculpting materials such as clay or playdough.
Printed materials will be provided before each meeting. Access to a printer is required--but if none is available, please contact teacher to arrange an alternative solution. (We will make it work!)
Additional materials may be requested prior to individual classes, but they will be common household or office supplies that are easy to find in most homes. Alternative suggestions are always available upon request if a student does not have access to a supply we will be using.

One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE!

From Miss Ashley: I have always loved to work with young children! Ever since I was a kid, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I love being a part of a child’s yearn to learn and I believe that learning is always fun. I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary-aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I’ve worn many hats throughout life but my favorite one is being a mom. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kiddos, my 3 crazy cats, sewing and gardening.
