Experiencia de clase

This is a creative club for music producers and songwriters to hang out and learn.

We will cover a variety of topics as they relate to technology and music. The main focus of the class is to challenge students to create music in a variety of different mediums, through the continual exploration of different apps and software.

Here are examples of what topics/apps we will cover:
Week of Oct21 - SoundForest: exploring simple beat arrangements
Week of Oct28 - dotMelody: exploring melody, arpeggiators
Week of Nov 4 - Chordion: exploring musical scales and various types of chords
Week of Nov 11 - Musyc: exploring new ways to create music, melody and rhythm

The class is a club. Students will have a large chunk of time to create using the "app of the day". We will review the features of the app, and then move on to creati

I'm teaching this class with technology (iPad7th generation) Students will be expected to have something similar so that they can use the apps that I'm teaching, and get the full experience. Headphones are a requirement for this class. Wired would be preferred, I'm just not sure how functionality would be with Bluetooth devices and latency issues.

For this class in terms of teaching style, I'll be supportive, giving students space and time to work on their own compositions. I'll do some quick instruction which means that any lessons will be short, and something that they could utilize immediately in their projects.

Additionally, here are a few other things that this club will provide for its members.

Skill development: Members can hone their creative abilities, learn new techniques, and explore different mediums. Sharing expertise and knowledge can help members grow and improve their craft. Connecting with like-minded individuals can lead to collaborations and friendships

Inspiration and Motivation: Being surrounded by talented individuals can spark new ideas and fuel creativity. A supportive community such as this can encourage members to pursue their creative goals and overcome challenges. Constructive feedback can help members improve their work and develop a critical ear.

Collaboration and Community: Working together on group projects can foster teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Over time I envision this club creating a sense of belonging and community among members.

I’m Paul and I’m excited to be offering classes in digital music here on Outschool! I’ll be facilitating a variety of classes that will challenge your child's creative abilities.

I’ve been teaching digital audio production for over 20 years, and have a Masters in Music Technology with a Film emphasis.

Since I started, I've learned how to use so many tools including apps, software, plug-ins and tricks. I've been around long enough to see music transition from Vinyl to Tape to CD to mp3 to streaming. Although the technology has advanced, the process of creating and producing music is still the same.

Providing students with a platform to grow and cultivate their own passions in music and art has always been at the core of my teaching. For most my career, I've used the project based learning method.

I've conducted workshops in many educational settings such as afterschool programs, summer camps, non-profit centers and recording studios. I've worked in schools, churches, youth centers, and alternative education spaces. I’ve also done my fair share of freelance audio production projects, and have even put out a few independent releases over the years.

I’m a home school parent which also shapes my pedagogy. Home schooling gives children and parents bit more freedom and control over their learning and career path. (My 2 children attend classes on Outschool. )

My three levels of focus in the classroom have always been:
(1) using the latest state-of-art-technology...which is constantly evolving
(2) training students for technical careers in radio, tv and film
(3) having fun

One of the music programs that I am most proud of is Inner Power Records, where I managed the space and taught students the music production process from start to finish--enabling them to write, record, perform and release their own music. You can listen to some of the music we produced at https://innerpower.bandcamp.com/

I'm an audiophile. I collect records. I enjoy artists like John Coltrane, Kokoroko, J Dilla, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Robert Glasper, A Tribe Called Quest. Anything with a good beat, I'm all about listening to. I enjoy films too, one of my favs is Ghost Dog, ft. Forest Whittaker, soundtrack scored by The RZA of The WuTang Clan.

I look forward to helping you learn whatever it is to get you to that next level.
