The instruction and interaction will take place through a series of video lessons on Zoom and Seesaw. Students will be able to upload videos, pictures, files and comments for interaction with the teacher and other students. I will comment on each activity that students complete in writing, audio, and video. In some of my lessons, I will record videos giving feedback for student writing. Students will be encouraged to comment and discuss the topics of the lessons. This curriculum is very thought provoking, so I will be encouraging students to discuss their opinions with me and with each other. This class will focus on the following standards: - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. - Introduce a topic; organize ideas, concepts, and information, using strategies such as definition, classification, comparison/contrast, and cause/effect; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., charts, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension. - Develop the topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples. Week 1 Essential Questions: What is informative/explanatory writing? How can I organize ideas and information in a five-paragraph essay? Students will: - use a bubble map organizer to brainstorm ideas on the topic, "How I would change the world" - use a five-paragraph outline template to help them understand how to organize, or structure, their ideas in a five-paragraph essay Week 2 Essential Questions: What is annotating text? How do I extract the main idea and details from Informational Text? Students will: - Study famous quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. and other famous leaders - take notes, and categorize information into Topic and Supporting Facts. The Day my Brother Changed The World" - Take notes and learn how to use the "Boxes and Bullets" system to write a main idea and supporting details. Week 4 Essential Questions: How do I develop the topic in my writing with concrete details? How do I develop and organize my ideas to write a paragraph? Students will: - construct paragraphs that are organized to provide facts and supporting details about a given topic. - Practice writing "clincher" sentences to help with transitions Week 5 Essential Questions: How do I use quotes to support the topic sentence? How do I revise my paragraphs to make them flow better? Students will: - Practice writing a "hook" sentence to engage their audience.- learn how to develop the supporting detail sentences using quotes. - Practice writing dress ups, sentence openers, and decorations to add more detail to their writing.
