Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Students will work on the assigned material and submit written work to the teacher via the classroom either in a private message or directly to the classroom page. If students submit directly to the classroom page, other students in the class can read their work as well. Teacher will provide feedback as necessary. Students that are unable to submit their completed printables, can self correct. Teacher will go over all assigned PDF printable classwork in the beginning of the next week's video lesson and will provide a separate slide for answers to the printables for the last class. Students will have a Kahoot quiz each week to check for comprehension after completing the lesson for the week. There will be a daily interactive discussion question on a collaborate board in Nearpod where students can post, view and react to each other's comments,
Evaluación
Teacher will assess student progress through reading their written material, checking the Kahoot quiz for understanding and through classroom interactions.

Writing an essay can be a daunting process! 
This class leads students step by step through the process of writing a solid essay.
Beginning with creating strong sentences, students will move forward into building paragraphs and end with a solid complete essay. This is a flexible schedule class so students can access the class material at times that suit their schedule.
Join me to find out that writing an essay can be fun. When you know the steps, you find that it isn't so difficult after all!
There will be:
* a weekly video from the instructor to go over what will be taught in each lesson. These videos and the class content will be posted by 8 a.m. EST Monday. 
* weekly discussions questions posted by 8 a.m. EST Monday for all students to answer on an interactive collaborate board in Nearpod. The link and code for the Nearpod board will be posted in the classroom. Students can view, respond and react to each other's posts. 
*shared written material in the classroom.
* weekly Kahoot quizzes posted on Wednesdays by 8 a.m. EST which students can coordinate and take together at the same time in a game-like fashion if they choose. The code for the Kahoot quizzes will be posted on the classroom page. 
* student interaction in the classroom through posting questions, comments and material for peer review.
* office hours for individual work with students by request from the student. The office hours will be posted in the classroom and students will need to book a time with instructor at least 24 hours in advance to ensure availability. 

Week One:
 Sentences and sentence structure... Students will learn to write sentences where every word is important. They will learn how to combine sentences to reduce the use of unnecessary words.
 Paragraphs...Students will learn what a paragraph is and the importance of a topic sentence and main idea.

Week Two:
 Paragraphs...Students will learn how to develop and arrange supporting sentences in a well-organized way. Students will identify the topic sentence, build and develop it with additional sentences to give more information. 

Week 3:
The Essay...Students will learn about the three main parts of an essay and the importance of time-order for continuity and understanding. Students will begin the Introductory Paragraph of their essay and how to hook the reader.

Week 4:
The Essay...Students will learn how to build supporting body paragraphs to help the reader understand the main idea. They will learn how to identify the thesis statement and how to identify sentences that do not belong in a paragraph.

Week 5:
Students will learn how to wrap things up in a concluding paragraph. They will learn the three important parts to a concluding paragraph, how to apply transitions and evaluating their essay as the final step.

Students will improve their understanding of sentences and how each one is an important building block of a paragraph. Students will learn how to identify a main idea, create an introductory paragraph with a hook to grab and hold their readers' attention. Students will build upon that introductory paragraph with support paragraphs proving their thesis statement. Students will them create transitions to connect and link their paragraphs together and use time-order to keep the writing organized and understandable. Students will create a concluding paragraph and wrap their essay up. After the writing is complete, students will evaluate and edit their essays.

Students will need to check the classroom and can access Nearpod daily for discussion questions and interaction. The link and code will be posted daily in the classroom. Students will not need an app, they can just click on the link. Students will access Kahoot weekly. I will post a game pin number in the classroom weekly. Students do not need a Kahoot app, they can either use the Kahoot app or simply go to https://kahoot.it/ and put in the game pin.
