Experiencia de clase

In this multi-day course, we will meet once a week for four weeks. In this course, students will build on their writing skills beginning with learning to label drawings and moving into writing sentences. We will also use sight words from the kindergarten sight word list- Fry's first 100 sight words in our sentences. This class is a great way for students to connect reading skills to writing skills. This class is geared towards students who know how to write letters and knows most if not all of their letter sounds.

Each week, we will begin the class by learning/reviewing sight words we will use for that day. I believe in the instruction method, "I do, We do, You do" and will incorporate that into my teaching. The first week, I will model drawing and and then labeling the picture (I do). Then, we will work together on drawing a picture and labeling (We do). The "You do" part takes place during class and at home when students continue practicing the skills learned in class. I will also teach students about capitalization for names and first words in sentences as well as and using punctuation in our sentences. We will work together to build on skills until students are writing at least 2-3 sentences about a drawing, object, animal, or other topic. In the beginning, students may just need to copy until they feel more comfortable creating and writing their own sentences. This class is not about spelling and misspelled words are expected. At times, words will need to be sounded out whether it is CVC (i.e. cat, dog) or that will be phonetically spelled (i.e. lion, lyn). That is great for early writers! The point is they are using correct sounds to spell. I keep my class size small so I have time to help students individually as needed.

Students should have prior knowledge and ability to write letters and know sounds of many letters to take the course. I have a course for teaching letters and letter formation if your child needs to start there first. I also have a sight words class if you want your child to build sight word identification and writing knowledge first.

Through this course, students can build confidence as writers while building on their skills through creating and writing sentences. This class is NOT for writing paragraphs. This is a class geared towards early writing that is taught in kindergarten. I created this course so students will have multiple opportunities to learn and practice writing skills so they can become successful writers. At times, I may provide an extra handout for further independent practice. These will be provided through the classroom tab before class each week. If handouts are provided for practice at home or a writing assignment is given, I would love for the students to post their work in the classroom.

I encourage students to shine in our classroom by taking pride in their growth in learning! I am a patient and encouraging teacher and will always work hard to make students feel comfortable in their learning. I am available and will check the classroom and parent private messages daily for any questions and help you may need. I will provide feedback throughout the course to let you know how your student is doing in their progress as a writer. I often call them "glows and grows" meaning I will always tell you something your child is doing well at and if there is something he or she can work on in regard to strategies we are practicing in class. As an educator, my purpose is to help your child be successful, and I am here for you in helping them at home as well. Always feel free to message me with any questions or concerns. So, join me on this early writer's journey to building confidence and skills as a writer!

In each class, I will model the skills we will be doing each week including-labeling, adding details, sounding out CVC words and phonetic spelling, and writing sentences. Students can use other sight words than what is listed for each week. These are just a guideline for words we will review.
**Please note, the pace of the class will depend on the students.

Lista de útiles escolares
It is best for students use lined paper often used in kindergarten (lined handwriting tablet). This paper helps students to follow the formation of letters as uppercase and lowercase as well as large enough to use spacing between words correctly. The tablets with lines and picture box at the top is even better so that students can draw to match their sentence. One or both is up to you.
Pencil, eraser, crayons
I may provide handouts at times that we will use to practice skills together in the classroom. These will be posted in the classroom tab before class.
