Gain writing confidence by mastering the five paragraph essay! Writing papers can feel daunting, especially when kids take the leap from elementary to middle school. As essays become a bigger part of the English curricula, many students feel lost and frustrated when it comes to writing an organized paper. In this class, you will learn how to take a writing prompt and turn it into an A paper using a common and simple format: the Five Paragraph Essay.

By using simple writing prompts that have no right or wrong answer, students will learn how to:
1. Create a strong thesis statement that states a position (class 1)
2. Construct a simple outline (class 1)
3. Use the outline and thesis to write a rough draft (class 2)
4. Edit the rough draft into a solid, organized final paper (class 3)

Each week, students will receive specific feedback on their homework from the teacher to learn where and how to improve their writing. The model taught in this class can then be applied to other essay and paper structures students may be required to write in the future. By mastering the basics of organization, writing, and editing, students will gain confidence in their abilities and "crack the code" to formal essay writing!

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been teaching English and writing to students from middle to graduate school for over 20 years. I've helped students write essays, research papers, SAT essays, and even college application essays. One of my greatest joys is to break down the (seemingly) daunting task of writing a paper into small, manageable, and easy-to-understand steps. Everyone can write a paper, and it's my job to show them how!
