What if Goldilocks started playing with everyone's iPads at the Bear family house? What if the three pigs were urban pigs? Would the Big Bad Wolf have a new goal or would it be new actions to achieving the same old goal? Or would the evil stepmother in Snow White ask Google if she was the prettiest in all the world? How often might she take selfies? What would she say when she looks at Snow-White’s Instagram page or Tic Toc? There is only one way to discover the answer to these questions. But I assure you that in this class we’ll have more questions and a lot of fun creating updated fairy tales. In this creative writing workshop, we're going to take a classic fairy tale and give it a modern twist. We’ll discover new ways to retell these old stories with our new technology and in our current time period. Please be prepared to talk about fairy tales you know. Activities: Talk about our favorite classic fairy tale Brainstorm modern tweaks to use in the reinvented story Each student will select a fairy tale to recreate Writing sprint 1: use the modern idea to create the beginning of the story Writing sprint 2: use the modern twists to craft the story Student sharing a feedback (some creative "what if" questions) Students are welcome to repeat this class to make a new fairy tale each new session.

I’m Kyria Kalata, an author, tutor, ESL teacher, and the proud founder of the House of Education. With a background as a TV journalist and a veteran homeschool mom, I’ve explored all mainstream educational options to bring the best to my students.
My classes are centered around reading, writing, and goal setting - the fundamental skills that empower children to take control of their educational journey.
As a child diagnosed with dyslexia, I faced academic limitations. But I discovered that the library was a treasure trove, filled with textbooks and teaching resources that transformed my life. I overcame the barriers set by my learning label, and I’m passionate about helping children everywhere do the same.
Today, I often meet parents who are frustrated because they struggle to teach their child to read. I’ve seen mothers and daughters at my doorstep in tears, feeling defeated. I believe that reading should be a joy, not a source of pain. With 12 years of experience teaching children aged 3-18 to read (including many for whom English is a second language), I’ve developed fun, innovative methods that make the transition to reading natural and enjoyable.
I invite you to join one of my sample classes to experience the joy of learning. Let’s transform the way your child reads and sets goals, shaping a brighter future for them.
