In a small group setting (1-3 only) students practice making decisions by playing a "Would You Rather?" Writing and Drawing Game. Students are presented with choices. For Example: "Would You Rather"... play video games or read a book? Students write and draw their answers, then reveal their answer sheets to the class, explaining their reason. After three answers, students either tell a story or write and illustrate a story, using their answers. The class is 50 minutes, time for two awesome rounds of decision making and presenting. This class is confidence building. It is super friendly and fun. Confidence and Kindness Artist Ms. Leslie, a 5-Star ACE Educator, 2023/2024 Outschool Outstanding Educator, and nominated for Highest Rated Educator in Outschool's Best in Class awards 2023, will immediately make your child feel welcomed and ready to learn in this fun, fast paced, imagination and giggle packed 50 minutes. NEW clues every day. NEW experience every day. Enroll in as many classes as you want, whenever you want. The record for many students is over 40 times. Writing, drawing and storytelling improves significantly. Go to the class calendar at the beginning of each month and pick the dates that work for your family. "Would you Rather" is a fun and important game to practice decision making. Did you know the average person (adult) makes up to 35,000 decisions every day? According to PBS, researchers at Cornell University estimate people make 226.7 decisions each day on food alone! Playing games like "Would you Rather" can help children practice weighing decisions, making decisions and explaining the reasoning behind the decision to prepare them for the future. Students will practice public speaking, writing, drawing, storytelling, reading, conversation, time management and active listening. Most importantly, students will practice kindness towards themselves and one another as they interact, listening and looking for opportunities to connect while they assert their decisions and reasoning. Important note: Please take this class inside, with a proper place to write and draw. Students will show their work to the camera, so a car or other learning environment is not ideal. One of the best things about choosing to teach small classes (1-3 kids) is that I get to facilitate friendships from all over the world. I am an expert at inclusion and love bringing kids together... bonding through our shared love of kindness, writing and art. I create a positive, encouraging and motivating learning environment. My goal is to give parents maximum value for their dollar and to give kids a fun, self esteem oriented, confidence boosting 50 minutes that can be repeated. Clues change Daily. The process stays the same. Parents have called me the Reluctant Writer Whisperer! :) If I do my job right, when class ends, your student will run to show you their answer sheets! Please scroll down to read parent reviews of my class and to see student's answer sheet drawings and stories. I want this to be a kind, safe and generous place to share art and stories. Please share this with your learner: I do not allow violence of any type in the writing or the artwork or bathroom type of humor. I want students to be positive and to tell uplifting stories. I am a kindness and confidence mentor for children. I want your student to leave my class feeling GREAT about themselves, others and the effort they put into class. Thank you for your support. Because of the small size and participatory nature of this class, I ask that cameras stay on for the duration of the class. Thank you! IMPORTANT: If at the beginning of class you are having technical difficulty, at the 5 minute mark I will ask you to end meeting and I will transfer you to another time soon after class ends, immediately after if possible. If you are running late, I won't be able to let you in from the waiting room after the 5 minute mark and won't be able to respond to emails after class begins. Thank you parents. Sincerely, Ms. Leslie Please have backgrounds OFF so we can see answer sheets. Be on Gallery View on Zoom if possible. I am an Outschool Star Educator, 5-Star ACE Educator, and was recognized as a 2023/24 Outschool Outstanding Educator. I was nominated in 2023 for: Highest Rated Educator. I have 14 years of experience as a Confidence and Kindness Mentor to children ages 7-11. I teach Life Skill classes about Kindness and Confidence, using art and conversation, as well as Writing and Drawing games, designed to encourage creativity, social skills, manners and confidence. I am skilled at inclusion and create a positive, respectful and fun-loving classroom. The comment I hear the most from parents is that I am a very "kind teacher". My classes welcome ESL and ELL students to practice their writing, drawing and speaking in an encouraging environment. (Class is appropriate for CEFR: B1,B2,C1,C2*).
I have a B.S. Degree in Psychology. Prior to working with students ages 7-11, I spent 25 years mentoring and managing in the Financial Services Industry. Fourteen years ago I shifted from Finance to teaching Kindness and Confidence lessons in K-4th grade classrooms. I encourage students to love being their authentic selves, which I believe, helps in every aspect of life. I taught my Kindness and Confidence program in person and online prior to joining the Outschool team. All of my lessons center around gratitude, confidence, kindness and self esteem, with a lot of positive conversation, art, fun and laughter. When your child leaves my class I want them to feel good about themselves, the friends they made and the effort they put into the class. If your student is eager to show you what they created in my class, I did my job right!
Do you remember positive teachers from your childhood? Those adults that made you feel like you were included, seen, heard and valued? That even today, as an adult, you remember because of how they made you feel? That is my goal for every class I teach. I encourage students to speak, draw or write (ideally all three), in a safe and supportive environment and to express themselves and their unique viewpoints! I want students to feel empowered, safe, brave, creative and to let their silly side show when they do projects with me.
Fun fact? I have bungee jumped twice, once forward and once backwards, off the highest legal bungee jumping bridge in the United States. I have skydived. I have gone on three scenic glider rides! I love to learn new things. I love inspiring, motivating and teaching students how to believe in themselves. I love being a paper artist. I love being able to bring kids together to feel their best, while giving their best. I love my family, gardening, building furniture, paper art, problem solving, people who try hard, going on walk and talks, bike rides, Elmo’s positive outlook, good communicators, tennis, playing cards, ping pong, meditation and I looooove belly laughing. Most of all, I love teaching kindness and confidence lessons to kids. -Ms. Leslie
