Experiencia de clase

Are you looking to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? Are you ready to discover our wonderful world? In this series, students will draw a wonderful woman as a way to celebrate women's history. This class offers an opportunity to celebrate, appreciate and understand the contributions of women in society. In each class, students will learn about a wonderful woman as well as draw an image that could be used for a public mural. Students of different drawing abilities are able to enjoy this class as we will use shapes and lines.

In this class we will discuss the three women who created the Black Lives Matter movement. They are Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi. They created the BLM movement in response to the murderer of a Black teenager, Trayvon Martin, being acquitted. The BLM movement has grown around the world and continues to develop as a social agent of change. It's also part of modern Black History. In reflecting on the fight for civil rights and equality in the USA, the class offers a creative way to think about the everlasting impact of MLK in modern day.

The class will begin with a 5-minute introduction of the three wonderful women; students will learn key words to describe the women (anti-racism, anti-racist, dignity, ally and acknowledge). Next, students will look at the sample drawing that the teacher has created prior to class. This will serve as the model for drawing a mural idea. By the end of the class, students will have a beautiful drawing of Wonderful Woman of the World. As the teacher, I will guide students to create a drawing that the students likes.
