This is it! Outschool's original ongoing Country Studies class. Every week, we will study the physical and human geography of one country, with an emphasis on physical geography. WE ARE ON LESSON #163 - BAHRAIN! Please scroll down to see upcoming countries. Come join us. There are quite a few students who have been with me for more than two years.... since I started this ongoing class back in early 2021. Each lesson is bespoke and takes about ten hours to create. This is why I don't offer...
- Students will gain a better understanding of the physical and human geography of countries all over the world. The study of Geography has so much to offer.
Certified Secondary Social Science Teacher (Geography, Economics, Government & History) (Lifetime Teaching Certificate) BS in Secondary Education - Social Science Composite AAS in Hotel & Restaurant Management I am a Texas-Certified High School Geography teacher and Middle School World Studies teacher. I have ten years of experience teaching in the public schools in Texas and many years teaching in the homeschooling and unschooling communities. My expertise is in Geography and the Culinary Arts. I am a former unschooling mom. My twin sons were brought up as primarily self-directed and autodidactic learners.
A significant percentage of my students have unique learning needs such as ASD and ADHD. Many are long-term students who do well and enjoy my lessons.
Pencil Eraser Fat Highlighter Ruler Medium-sized black marker Set of colored pencils Students will need access to a printer so they may print out the PDF maps I send them. These maps should be printed out before class so that they may be used during class. Sometimes we might use more than one map.... it all depends on the country.

I create all my lessons on Nearpod. The learners will be given a link to the Nearpod lesson at the beginning of each class. Learners should be familiar with splitting their screen, where Zoom will be on one side of the screen and the Nearpod lesson will be on the other side of the screen. This skill is not difficult to learn. If this is an unfamiliar skill for the learner, the parent may wish to assist the learner for the first lesson or two. Instead of splitting their screens, some learners choose to use two devices, which is ideal.
I use MANY resources. It's not possible to list them all.... it depends on the country. Below is a list of the sources I use the most. Google Earth Google Maps Nearpod.com d-maps.com freedomhouse.com The Economist Magazine The Economist Group's Democracy Index Foreign Affairs Magazine Al-Jazeera Wikipedia DW News Goode's World Atlas The Daily Chatter Sea Change - An Atlas of Islands in a Rising Ocean by Christina Gerhardt The Council on Foreign Relations National Geographic Magazine Foreign Policy Magazine The United Nations - Various newsletters Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall Most of Simon Winchester's books - Check them out! Rivers of Power by Lawrence C. Smith Sapiens - by Yuval Noah Harari - The book and also his graphic novels The OER Project Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond ..... and MANY other books dealing with more specific subjects/countries/regions, etc.
