This 1 hour class is perfect for a budding Wizard! We will create a wonderful magical wand with just a few supplies. These wands are a fun addition to any wizard in training. The class will be a live step by step instructional time, where you will be creating your wand along with other students. I will guide you through the easy steps, helping you with tips and tricks to get the perfect wand. We will be using a glue gun, so please make sure you are comfortable using one. There are so many decorative styles you can do with the wands and the glue is a major component to creating these fun designs on our wands. I will talk about some safety tips with using the glue gun and how to manage the wand while glue is setting. After we construct our wands, we will learn faux finishes with paint to make our wands look ancient and authentic. This tips can be used on other projects you may want to make look vintage or antiqued. After the class you will have at least 1 magical wand to show your wizard friends! Once you know how to make one, you can make dozens. Its a lot of fun and so easy!

Lista de útiles escolares
-Wooden dowels as thick as a pencil or thicker, 12" or longer. -Acrylic craft paint- browns, blacks, or any color you prefer. (We will use at least 2 colors so have a dark color and a lighter shade.) If you want a metallic look, have a gold, silver or a metal color as well. -A brush with water for paint and a towel / paper towel. -A glue gun with at least 3 glue sticks. (All temperature works better for drips but you can still get effects with a low temp glue gun.) -Marbles, glass stones or large plastic jewels to place at the end of the wand. -A jar, vase or can you can rest the wands in while drying. -Newspaper, cardboard or aluminum foil. (Something you can have under you to catch any drips of glue or paint.) Optional- Sand paper or a sanding block to sand the end of the dowel. The more dowels and glue sticks you have, the more wands you can make! I recommend making at least 2 or more wands at a time. That way, while one is drying, you can work on the next one.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! Let's make something you design and create! I am a doll maker by trade and own a small business selling eco friendly sewn toys. I have a background in textiles and art with a BS from Philadelphia college of Textiles and Science and have attended Massachusetts College of Art and Moore College of Art. While studying textiles in Scotland, I was inspired by their openness to experiment with random materials and craft in very different ways. This idea has stayed with me and has grown into an interest into many craft forms, playing with unusual and varied materials.
I started making Art quilts and Art dolls, some of which have been published. I spent years painting furniture, rooms and murals and love playing with faux finishing techniques and paint materials. I have always been interested in archeology and indigenous craft, and am inspired by their use of color and detail. On the side, I also design posters, flyers and logos for local non-profits.
I am, most importantly, a homeschooling mom of a 11 year old boy and I have been teaching kids, ages 3-10, at different cooperatives during the past 6 years. A big philosophy in my classes, is that there are no mistakes, only accidents we can learn and grow from. I have taught many classes ranging from Comic Books, Textile Arts, Paper Engineering, Paper Circuitry and Play n Learn Math to 2-D Art, Sewing, Mindfulness and Archeology. I look forward to sharing my love of cultures, art and craft with your kids!
