In this ongoing course, each week students will learn about a new female artist and the style of their artwork. At the beginning of each class we will look at the artists life and what influenced them and their artwork. After we have learned about the artist we will spend the remainder the the class working on our own sketches and drawings, using inspiration from what students have learned about that weeks artist. It is helpful for students to take quick notes about the artist to document their creative lives to draw future information from. Though this is a lecture and sketch course, students are free to use whichever medium that want i.e. acrylic, watercolor, gouache, mixed media, pencil/ charcoal. This is a time to explore different styles to gradually develop an art style of their own and develop more of an understanding in art history! Listed below are the dates and tentative artists we will be learning about: Week of February 12th: Artemisia Gentileschi Week of February 19th: The Guerilla Girls Week of February 26th: Georgia O'Keeffe Week of March 4th: Tamar de Lempicka Week of March 11th: No Class Week of March 18th: Frida Kahlo Week of March 25th: Njideka Akunyili Crosby Week of April 1st: Yayoi Kusama Week of April 8th: Shirin Neshat Week of April 15th: Kara Walker Week of April 22nd: Jenny Saville Week of April 29th: Sonia Boyce Week of May 6th: Hilma al Kilmt Week of May 13th: Elizabeth Catlett Week of May 20th: Zarina Hashmi Week of May 27th: Yoko Ono Week of June 3rd: Camila Caneque Week of June 10th: Lynette Yaidom- Boakye Week of June 17th: Helen Frankenthaler Week of June 24th: Jenny Holzer Week of July 1st: Wendy Red Star Week of July 8th: Ana Mendieta

Licenciatura en Música o Teatro o Artes desde University of Wyoming
Hello,
My name is Ms. Elizabeth Suriani, and I am a full-time artist from Northern Colorado. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Art History in 2016. While at the University of Wyoming I primarily studied 2D art style, including oil painting and print making. I also studied in Florence, Italy during the fall of 2015 where I studied architectural and figurative drawing, as well as fresco restoration.
Since 2015 I have been teaching art and art history to students ranging from ages 5-17 years old with lessons ranging from basic instructions, all the way to advanced classes and color theory for older students. I love teaching art and am currently teaching two international students in Italy and Thailand.
I have recently returned home from teaching English as a second language in Bangkok, Thailand with students aging from 2-16 years old. I loved working with my students and miss them dearly.
On top of being a full-time artist, I have also started my own jewelry business, as well as teaching English Language to children in China!
When teaching, I love to keep things fun and light. I believe that seriousness doesn’t do a young mind any good when learning art at an early age, it tends to discourage them instead. I want to help my students find art or anything they are passionate about and feel like they have a space to ask questions, experiment, and flourish.
I can’t wait to see you in class!
