In this one-time class we'll read stories like "Wombat Stew", by Marcia K. Vaughn, work togther to retell the story using the included printables, explore pictures and fun facts about animals in Australia and engage in themed Pre K Skill building activities like letter name and sounds, and ISpy & Count. Little learners can build great listening, observation and creative thinking skills during storytime, asking questions and using their imagination. In fact, did you know that reading aloud to kids has clear cognitive benefits? For example, brain scans show that hearing stories strengthens the part of the brain associated with visual imagery, story comprehension, and word meaning. One 2019 study from the National Library of Medicine estimated that children who are regularly read to in the 5 years leading up to kindergarten are exposed to 1.4 million more words than children who aren’t read to during those years. We will read "Wombat Stew" and work togther to remember the names of the animals and what they wanted to put in the stew. We will look at pictures and learn fun facts about the amazing animals who live in Australia and learn a little about where Australia is on planet Earth. We will learn new animal names and talk about letters and letter sounds as well as engage in counting and visual discrimination activities like shadow matching or same and different discussions. Lots of opportunities for discussion and sharing which is encouraged but not required to be a part of this class!

I have been creating classes for and teaching Pre K aged children since 2009. I was inspired to create this class after reading the story "Wombat Stew" to encourage memory and story retelling skills with the 3-6 year olds who attend my early childhood education classes. Will expand the class discussion and explore the animals of Australia who are featured in the story using books and videos about Australian animals found online.
