Welcome to Wildlife Scientist: Big African Herbivores, the Self-Paced Edition. OUR CLASS OBJECTIVE: In this wildlife science class, you will learn important facts about the characteristics, habitats, diet, family life and ongoing field work behind the conservation status of Giraffes, Elephants, Rhinos and Zebras. Learning Activities: Examples include: a creature labeling and classification activity, matching and identifying creature concepts, writing vocabulary words and conservation brainstorming worksheets designed to support science, writing and math concepts. I'll also include templates or art prompts for creative enrichment. Available Assessment: I created an assessment quiz using Kahoot and it is posted as an optional link that opens up right on the classroom page. Please contact me if you would like to have the quiz in a worksheet form. This is optional and no account is necessary to take the quiz. Questions and Feedback: I am available for lesson feedback or questions, please message me through the classroom. VIDEO LESSONS were created and recorded by me, made available to be viewed through a link via YouTube. The video is an embedded link and so the lesson displays ON the classroom page. No account is necessary to access the lesson, and you do not have to go to YouTube. REAL SCIENCE LESSONS: Lessons are made available on the classroom page, posted as video links and will include worksheet activity packs. I will also post a video of myself going over the worksheet activities onscreen, connecting it back to the learning in the video lesson.
Metas de aprendizaje
Each week, students will learn facts about the physical characteristics and specialized adaptations of a specific African herbivore species, including size, features, diet and habitat.
Students will learn how scientists use information about each specified herbivore species listed in order to compare and classify them into groups.

más de 4 semanasLección 1:
African Giraffes
In this lesson, you will learn about African Giraffes. You will explore their physical traits, social behaviors and how they are specifically adapted for survival in the savanna ecosystem.
You will also learn how and why this awesome giant herbivore is recognized as a keystone species by helping to regulate and encourage the growth of wild vegetation on the African savanna.
Lección 2:
African Elephants
In this lesson, you will learn about the two species of Elephants found in Africa. You will explore their physical traits, social behaviors and how they are specifically adapted for survival in the African forest and savanna ecosystem.
You will also learn how and why these important herbivores are recognized as a vital keystone species because of how they encourage and regulate growth of wild vegetation and trees on the African landscape.
Lección 3:
African Rhinos
In this lesson, you will learn about the two species of Rhinoceros found in Africa. You will explore their physical traits, social behaviors and how they are specifically adapted for survival in the savanna ecosystem.
You will also learn how and why these amazing giants are recognized as keystone herbivores because of how they regulate and landscape the growth of shrubs and grass within their African habitats.
Lección 4:
African Zebras
In this lesson, you will learn about four species of African Zebras. You will explore their physical traits, social behaviors and how they are specifically adapted for survival in the savanna ecosystem.
You will also learn how and why these unique ungulates are known as a keystone herbivore because they graze on grasses and shrubs too tough for other herbivores. This helps clear the way for a more diverse population of plant growth to thrive on the African landscape.

I have a BA in Elementary Education and my credentials are uploaded to Outschool. I taught classroom science to both preschool and elementary aged students for almost twenty years before coming to the Outschool online platform. As a child, I developed a strong love of nature and animals through books and hands-on experiences. As a teacher, I'm constantly reading, researching and learning everything I can about wild animal conservation and the natural world.
