I will be looking at student artwork throughout the class to check for understanding and provide feedback.Experiencia de clase
In this weekly drawing club, we will draw animals. Each week, there will be one or more wild or domestic animal drawn and discussed; learners can make suggestions about which animal they'd like to draw at upcoming sessions. We will discuss animal anatomy (bones, teeth, parts of the body) as applicable. Learners will interact with each other and the teacher by showing their work in progress throughout the class to receive feedback, and by chatting freely about animals and drawing. Our sketches will be based on a photo of the animal, but may be finished from the learner's imagination. Learners can join this club at any point in time. This class meets weekly on a regular basis. Parents can enroll and withdraw their learners at any point and are charged weekly like a subscription. It is possible for a new learner to join in any week, as every week will be structured very similarly. Through drawing our favorite animals, learners will also practice such art making skills as composition, sizes, shapes, proportions, texture, contrast, and value (shading). This will be done by the teacher modeling these skills, and encouraging the learners to try them out. This club will help learners to improve their drawings through repeated practice. Learners will become more confident artists, which in turn will help them find their own voice in art making. This club can also be a fun place to discuss our favorite animals and nature, and to learn from each other. Below is the weekly breakdown of the class themes for upcoming classes: Week of November 28 - Studying animal skeletons - how to draw animals sitting down. Animals of the week - a cat and a ring tailed lemur. Week of December 5 - Species spotlight - brown bear. Week of January 9 - Color and contrast. Animal of the week - poison-dart frog. Suggested materials - any color materials, i.e. colored pencils, pastels, markers or crayons. Week of January 16 - Mixing colors. Animal of the week - a wildebeest. Suggested materials - colored pencils, pastels or crayons.

Optional materials may include colored pencils, oil pastels or watercolor. I will always let learners know ahead of time if any of these are needed, and they will always be optional, not a requirement.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
2 Grado
Maestría en Música o Teatro o Artes desde Hunter College
Licenciatura en Música o Teatro o Artes desde Parsons School of Design
My background includes professional illustration, printmaking, and an MA in Art History, but after many years of various jobs in the art world, I found that the best use of my knowledge and talent is teaching art to children. For the past 15 years, I have been a teaching artist at multiple programs and venues. Finally, five years ago I opened my own art studio for children, Canvas and Crayon. My curriculum, developed through many years of work, is a unique blend of teaching both technique and self-expression. I believe in providing my young students with all the knowledge they need to express their own ideas. Every year my students bring me joy and satisfaction as they grow and their skills develop. I also treasure the development of community as students work alongside one another and get to meet peers with similar interests and talents.
