In this one time class we will read about some of our favorite witches in stories like "Winnie the Witch" and "Room on the Broom", practice sequencing activities for each book and engage in themed color, letter, letter sounds and number activities.

Little learners can build great listening, observation and creative thinking skills during storytime, asking questions and using their imagination. In fact, did you know that reading aloud to kids has clear cognitive benefits? For example, brain scans show that hearing stories strengthens the part of the brain associated with visual imagery, story comprehension, and word meaning. One 2019 study from the National Library of Medicine estimated that children who are regularly read to in the 5 years leading up to kindergarten are exposed to 1.4 million more words than children who aren’t read to during those years.

We will meet and greet the first few minutes of class so everyone gets comfortable, talk a bit about our class subject and our stories and discuss how we will use our listening and observation skills as we read together.

In between our stories we will work on remembering the sequence of events like what each animal puts in the brew in "Room on the Broom" and what colors does Winne use to help her see Wilbur the cat! We'll also engage in themed letter and number activities including labeling a witch's parts and observing pictures for what's the same and what's different.

Learners who are excited to share their observations and progress with our projects are encouraged to do so, but it is not required.

Orientación para padres
Because of the age of the class I recommend a grown up be within "ear-shot" to help with any technical hiccups (mic and video) that might come up. Please have activities prepped prior to class per the directions in the printables.
Lista de útiles escolares
Please print out the included activity pages and follow any prep directions before class begins. Learners can glue or lay the pictures in place when we work on our sequencing activity. Learners can place or glue the words in our label a witch activity. Please bring coloring tools to class.

** It's not mandatory that your learner participate in the activities. If they prefer to observe and complete the project after class, that's OK too!

I have been creating classes for and teaching Pre K aged children since 2009. I was inspired to develop this class featuring some of my PreK friends' favorite witches so we could enjoy these stories year round, not just at Halloween! The witch themed stories featured in this class are perfect for discussions around memory, building story retelling skills for the 3-6 year olds who attend my early childhood education classes. Additional class activities will focus on letter and letter sounds, colors and examining images to find similarities and differences, enhancing visual discrimination skills.
