Note: In addition to having your own copy of the book, you will also need access to a printer in order to fully participate in this class. (There are eleven worksheets to print, but they are in black and white and easy on your printer's ink.) Did you know there is a place in the Atlanta Ocean where many ships and planes have mysteriously vanished? Did you know that Christopher Columbus was one of the first people to sail through this strange place? During this interactive book club, we will read about a place called the Bermuda Triangle and the mysterious events that have happened there. This class will be held every day for one week (Monday-Friday). Reading assignments and homework will be given at the end of each class. Class Outline: Day One: - Introduction to class - What is a mystery? - Bermuda shipwrecks - Flight 19 - US Coast Guard and air traffic control towers - Make a bookmark Day Two: - Discuss answers to assigned worksheets - Sargasso Sea - Joshua Slocum - Cyclops Navy Ship - Learn Morse code Day Three: - Discuss answers to assigned worksheet - Disappearing ships and planes - Difference between a boat and a ship - Make paper boats Day Four: - Discuss answers to assigned worksheets - Compasses - City of Atlantis - UFOs (and James McDivitt) - Make unique paper airplanes. Day Five: - Discuss answers to assigned worksheets - Solved versus unsolved mysteries (and students' opinions) using worksheet 7 - Boat-building-challenge show and tell (voluntary) Other Info: - Students will need to bring their copy of the book to every class. But they do not need to start reading the book until AFTER the first class. (This is important so it doesn't spoil the mystery of the book.) - Before the first class starts, parents will need to assist students in printing the eleven class worksheets (that are provided by the teacher upon enrollment). Students will be encouraged but not required to share their completed work during class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I love this quote by Benjamin Franklin: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." I hope that as students join me in class I not only teach them, but I involve them! I have been a teacher for ten years, and I love it! I like to have a structured, well-prepared classroom but also laid back enough that students feel comfortable asking questions, joining discussions, and getting involved.
I have a science degree, and I spent several years working as a Health Inspector, Drinking Water Inspector, and an Environmental Specialist. Later as I started to transition away from the science field, I spent two years helping people who have a traumatic brain injury before I became a teacher, author, and business owner. In addition to Outschool, I am also an ESL teacher, a homeschooling mom of three, a Sunday school teacher, an author of six children's books, and I own a business that provides teaching resources for kids around the world.
When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with family, writing books, hosting a kid-friendly podcast, and trying to get my two parakeets to talk (which I have not been very successful at). Two things that people find unusual about me are: I don't like chocolate, and I have 38 nieces and nephews!
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in class soon!
