Does your child enjoy learning about people? Are they intrigued by why people do what they do? If so, this is the class for them!! To say that I am excited about this class is a major understatement. I'm always interested in finding out more about people from history and current times. Now I have the opportunity to teach about them too! This is amazing! Through this class, I hope to share my enthusiasm for researching people while encouraging children to read and socialize with a group of their peers.

We will meet every week to discuss a different Who is? Who was? book. Classes will include comprehension checks, discussion time, and hands-on writing and/or art activity. To keep learners interested, learners will participate in a new activity every class. Yes, that's right, no two classes will be the same. Be ready to be actively engaged!

Although many of the activities will require materials, don't worry, I will keep them simple items that most of us have around the house- watercolors, craft sticks, construction paper, etc. Materials will be posted in the classroom each week.

***While we may be reading small sections of the text in class, students should come to class having already read the text to share, say our favorite parts. Due to copyright regulations, we are unable to read the entire text during class.***

The Who Is? Who Was? series of books does an amazing job of explaining people from a variety of periods, roles, and areas of life. We'll have the opportunity to explore artists, musicians, politicians, athletes, and many others. Come explore with us!

I grew up in Wisconsin where I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at UW Stout. I've taught for the public school system for 14 years in a variety of positions including classroom teacher, interventionist, ELL teacher and elementary science lab teacher. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading and School Administration from Johns Hopkins. After leaving the public school system I've spent the last several years teaching middle school Science and History at a homeschool tutorial while being a homeschool mom. I enjoy teaching hands on engaging courses that spark the interest of students with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to become life long learners. I welcome student interaction and questions.

In my personal life I LOVE to read, travel and explore new areas, especially the beach! I am a Girl Scout leader and adore every single girl in my troop. As a troop leader I am certified in several outdoors areas- archery, canoe, kayak, camping, etc. I can't wait to share some of my love of the outdoors with families here on Outschool.
