This is an ongoing course that meets once a week. Students may join us at any time! Every week we will discuss two epic mythical creatures. How strong is a dragons bite? What would happen if a Kraken really existed in the ocean? Would a Basilisk or a Bigfoot win in a battle? We will answer these questions along with many others. We will discuss the creatures legend of origin, the culture that first believed they existed, their habitats, behaviors, and diets. This class will begin with an interactive presentation on each of the creatures discussed. Students will brainstorm all of the things they already know about these creatures and all of the things they hope to learn in our class. Next, students will learn the strengths and weaknesses for both of the mythical beings and the deep history of their species. Finally, the students will decide who they think would win in a battle between the two creatures. Together we will imagine what that battle may look like! Students will then decide where our creature goes on our tournament bracket for the ultimate mythical creature. I believe students learn best when having fun in a supportive environment that encourages them to express their thoughts and opinions. My classes are student centered and are adaptive to the group of students present in class. Students are welcome to bring their favorite stuffed animals, books, or animal toys to share with the class. Snacks are welcome too. Kraken VS. Cetus Basilisk VS. Bigfoot Tengu VS. Centaur Akugyo VS. Nessie Sphinx VS. Typhon This class will continue past the dates listed. Students will have input on which creatures are discussed as class goes on.
