This is a broad introduction to the profession of archeology, appropriate for both students with some experience and knowledge in the field as well as those just interested in the topic. We will examine the early history of human habitation, particularly in The Americas, the ways artifacts can be dated and create a timeline for occupation, the ways archeologists excavate sites and record information, and the difference between scientific investigation and just digging holes. Well suited for visual learners, the slides will be front and center, but with ample time for questions, and my live narrative will provide context for the graphics and flexibility to meet the specific interests of the class members.

Metas de aprendizaje

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am an archeologist and historian who explores the physical evidence of past events whether prehistoric Native Americans in New York and Arizona or 18th century battlefields and early canals.

I worked in a museum for 30 years and taught in community colleges for ten years, and retired in 2002. I enjoy explaining things that may seem mysterious at first or which few people really know about. And now I live in Niskayuna, New York, which is a suburb of Schenectady.

I make miniatures and models, including railroad layouts and ships, and have been in a number of living history reenactment groups, which is a great way to reveal history to people who may not even be that interested in history. And even though I am not a kid, I enjoy playing online games like Roblox, where I build historically themed constructions to teach through gaming.
