My name is Teacher Kim (or Mrs. Kim!) and I am super excited to be spread my love for learning, language arts, and math with young minds. While I had a traditional career as an operations manager and consultant, my career changed when my own daughter was diagnosed with autism and ADHD. While she is considered high-functioning, I noticed how she would struggle in a traditional class setting that didn't allow her to get her wiggles out, explore themes she found interesting, and let her challenge herself and pace herself as needed. This led me to pursue my own teaching journey. We now homeschool, and I am 6 months away from graduating with my second degree, this time in K-12 education with an emphasis in Special Education.

To me, every child deserves a chance to be inspired, engaged, and have FUN! While much of my work in teaching has been towards high school students, I have a soft spot for ages 3-7 as well. These young minds require just as much stimulation as those making their way into adulthood, and they also need help regulating their emotions, meeting their social needs, and so much more. I believe in equipping young learners with a diverse array of knowledge to prepare them not only for kindergarten but to foster continuous learning and growth.

In this class, I hope to emphasize the importance of early education in laying a solid foundation for future academic success. Pre-K is a pivotal time when children begin to explore and understand the world around them. By introducing them to a variety of subjects and skills—from literacy and numeracy to social-emotional development and creative expression—we can empower them to build confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking skills.

I am committed to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments where every child can flourish. By nurturing their natural curiosity and providing age-appropriate challenges, I aim to instill a love for learning that will accompany them throughout their educational journey.

This class uses differentiated instruction and multisensory learning to meet diverse needs, including those with exceptionalities. Individualized support and assistive technology is included to ensure all students can thrive.
Learners should have some general knowledge of:

⭐ Identify letters & letter sounds.
⭐ Know their numbers - like being able to count to 10!
⭐ Identify shapes and simple patterns
⭐ Know how to use a pencil
⭐ Be able to follow directions
Materials needed for this class may include the following:

*pencil
*notebook
*crayons/markers/colored pencils
*a whiteboard and dry erase marker
*access to a printer for homework packets + extra activities
* access to craft supplies like glue, glue sticks, construction paper, etc.

I will always inform you the Sunday that the new lessons start on what you can expect your student to have for class. Their Sunday packet will include any materials that they will need for that week specifically, and their Friday packet will include anything they may need over the weekend. Many of these extra activities are optional, and class time will only require the student's attention, a pencil (crayons and colored pencils are fine too!) and paper.

Our class focuses on engaging and educational activities tailored for kindergarten learners. While certain themes such as Halloween are designed to be fun and enriching, we prioritize safety and sensitivity in our approach.

Potential Upsetting or Scary Content: We explore some themes like costumes, spooky stories, fairytales, and more that some children may find unsettling. Alternative activities are provided to ensure all children feel comfortable and engaged. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you notice a lesson during the week that you feel will make your child uncomfortable or upset, and we can have another option for them.

Media Content and Tools: If we use any media content or third-party tools, they are carefully selected to be age-appropriate and aligned with educational goals and are approved by Outschool. Families are informed about how these tools will be used and whether an account is required. An example tool that I use is LUMIO Smart Suite. I will share a link to the lesson so we go through the material together. Your student will not need an account and you do not have to sign up. The only requirement is for your student to enter their first name so that I can track their feedback. No other information is needed.

My goal is to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels safe, respected, and excited to learn. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding class content or safety practices.
In our classroom, we use a variety of sources to enhance learning and exploration, focusing on themes that engage and educate kindergarten learners. Here are the sources typically incorporated into the curriculum:

Children's Books: I select age-appropriate storybooks and picture books from libraries, bookstores, and online resources. These books enrich our themed lessons, providing captivating stories and illustrations that spark imagination and learning.

Educational Websites: I utilize educational websites that offer activities, crafts, and interactive content aligned with preschool learning standards. These resources help reinforce concepts introduced in class and provide additional avenues for exploration in a safe online environment.

Educational Resources: The curriculum is supported by educational resources specifically designed for preschool educators. These resources ensure our activities and lessons align with developmental milestones and educational goals, fostering comprehensive and engaging learning experiences.

In selecting and utilizing these sources, I adhere closely to class content policies. This ensures that all materials used in our classroom are safe, age-appropriate, and aligned with educational standards. My goal is to provide a nurturing and enriching environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.

If you have any questions about the sources I use or our approach to curriculum development, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your involvement and feedback are greatly valued.
