Experiencia de clase

Join us once a week as we explore the elements of music through singing, dancing, playing, and creating. We will investigate the concepts of sound (overtone, timbre, pitch, amplitude, duration), melody and harmony, rhythm, instruments and textures, structure and form, and musical expression (dynamics, tempo, articulation). Your young musician will learn to sing in tune, master their ability to find and interact with the beat or pulse of the music, and will find the beauty and art in music.

After these "every week" activities, your young musician might play a game, learn a simple dance, sing a solo, or share a homemade instrument or dance.

While these music classes may be seasonal in nature, no holidays will be celebrated in class. We will draw from music all over the world as well as from our own backgrounds. My teaching style is collaborative, conversational, and creative, and I love to listen to students and construct a curriculum around their interests and experiences. Specific class content will be based on the ages and interests of the learners who sign up. No previous experience is required. This is an ongoing class and each class can stand on its own.

Orientación para padres
While this is not primarily a dance class, we will be moving and learning some traditional folk dances, the occasional modern party dance (think the Electric Slide), clapping games, moving with props such as scarves, and other movement games and activities. Please be sure your learner has space to move-- this is definitely not a "sit in a chair" class-- as well as a water bottle if needed and appropriate foot wear for movement.
Lista de útiles escolares
It is recommended that every learner has a basket filled with the following items:
* something to use as a drum
* something to use as a scarf (a lightweight dishtowel or baby blanket, playsilk, dancing scarf, etc)
* something to use as rhythm sticks (two pencils, two wooden sticks, etc)
* something to use as a shaker (rhythm eggs, a small container filled with rice or beans, etc)
* a small whiteboard and dry erase marker or paper and pencil for composing
