In this class, we will create beautiful jellyfish. Learners will get to experiment with the effects of watercolor and crayon resist. We will warm up by sketching a few options for drawing various jellyfish before deciding which to recreate for our final pieces. I will provide support by guiding learners through a few directed drawing examples to begin.
I will share some footage of my own original (pre-recorded) video to help provide more visual support. I also like to help learners relate lines and shapes to things found in the world around them in order to help build skill, confidence and problem solving strategies (related to drawing). I usually tend to do this in progressive steps.
We will use crayons to draw the final jellyfish on the watercolor paper before we witness the amazing effect of the watercolor as it washes over the crayon marks to reveal our bright beautiful jellyfish.
What I love most about this type of project is that combining the use of crayons and watercolor can result in a finished piece almost instantly. This eliminates some of the drying time usually associated with working with watercolor. During our session, I look forward hearing learners share fun facts they may know about jellyfish.

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will become aware of watercolor resist techniques and how they help provide control as they build skills for working with watercolors. They will also gain a better understanding of the science behind why the wax tends to resist the water. Learners will also improve drawing skills through scaffolding and sharing strategies for future endeavors related to drawing and painting.
