Among Us is not only for random video game fun! It teaches learners valuable communication skills, collaboration with teammates, critical thinking and reasoning, and how to use a basic map. Learners have to use deduction to find out who the imposter is, convince their Crewmates to vote with them, or reasonably defend themselves if they are accused of being the imposter. There is so much important social interaction required to successfully complete each match that even the shyest of learners can practice conversing behind the face of an Among Us character. Best of all, the game will be held in a private room hosted by the teacher where safety, respect, kindness, and responsibility are the standards of conduct. At the beginning of each class, learners will connect to their normal Outschool Zoom meeting to review game rules and will be required to remain in front of their muted devices on Zoom for the entire class. Before entering virtual reality, learners will be reminded to hide their gamer tag , and given a special code to direct join the teacher in a private room (see instructions and screenshots in the welcome message). No personal information or gamer tags will need to be exchanged. They will communicate in the VR game during playtime. The class will reconvene on Zoom for the last couple of minutes to say goodbye. This is an ongoing course. Learners can join and withdraw as needed. Each session will be an independent experience. Room codes will only be active during scheduled class time and will change for each session. There are no weekly themes as the gameplay is the same each time and depends on learner actions during gameplay: The imposters and crewmates are randomly assigned by the game at the beginning of each match. Crewmates attempt to complete tasks and repair the damage of the imposters' attempts to sabotage the ship and kill off crewmates. **Please note that while these are cartoon images, there is an element of violence in this game. Imposters "kill" other players and non-bloody animations of getting stabbed in the back or necks broken are shown in the game. Parental guidance and discretion highly advised.*** Due to the teamwork aspect of this class, a strict minimum will be held to. In order to play, we need to have at least 3 learners and a teacher.
