In this fun four-day camp, students will be singing while learning the basics of spontaneous a cappella composition based on principles of vocal improvisation: listening, unison, harmony, rhythm, language, and cadence. They will create individual songs using the digital audio workstation (DAW), Garageband. They will share their completed songs with each other on the last day of the camp. The students are required to use GarageBand software on a Mac computer, not on an Iphone, Ipad, or any other phone or tablet. Day 1 - They will practice key principles of vocal improvisation, then apply that knowledge as they set up a Garageband file and record their first vocal track. Day 2 - They will build on the principles of vocal improvisation by layering multiple vocal tracks on the songs they started. Day 3 - They will learn more about production concepts and additional sound effects that they can apply to their songs. Day 4 - Students will share their recordings with the group, and speak about their creative process.
